It's a moment made for Dr. Frank-N-Furter from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Apple fans everywhere are shivering with antici...pation ahead of the company's new product announcement on September 10.
If the overactive rumor machine is to be believed, we'll be getting a refreshed iPhone called the iPhone 5S and a "cheaper" version in the form of the plastic-cased iPhone 5C. Both of those are pretty good bets, though there are no guarantees for either.… Read more
Wallpapers HD offers a large database of wallpapers you can add to your phone, tablet, or iPod touch. The search interface is easy to use, the wallpapers can be sorted by date or popularity, and we were able to find hundreds of options in a library that loaded quickly and downloaded fast to the device. While there is a definite tilt toward movies, celebrities, and other pop culture references, the volume of options is large.
When you first open Wallpapers HD, you will be shown the most recent wallpapers in the library. You can switch to Popular or Random, as … Read more
This blog is all about finding great-sounding audio products, in every price range. In June I reported on the best-sounding headphone I've ever heard, the Abyss AB-1266, but not long after that I was knocked out by Sony's MDR-V6, and now I'm auditioning these surprisingly decent $15 Audio Technica ATH-CLR100 in-ear headphones.
Introduced earlier this year, this all-plastic design is incredibly light, just 3.4 grams. It has 8.5mm drivers, sports small, medium, and large silicone eartips, and the headphone comes with a round plastic case. Amazon sells it for around $12, and even with that … Read more
In an ideal world, Apple would have designed its iPhones, iPods, and iPads with memory-expansion slots. But in this world, you're stuck with whatever fixed amount of storage you purchased.
So what happens when you go to download a movie or install a big game like Madden NFL 25 and your iDevice tells you don't have enough space available?
You're out of luck, that's what. Your only real option is to free up additional space by deleting apps and data. Ah, but how can you determine which apps and data are using the most space? If … Read more
As a Windows-centric user and part-time Apple lover, I really enjoy iTunes, at least on the Mac. But I will always be disdainful of its Windows counterpart. Windows iTunes is sluggish, crashes randomly for no reason, and with the latest update (ver. 11), it's not, overall, the most intuitive experience when there are multiple iDevices synced to one computer.
Leawo iTransfer has always been a popular iTunes (for Windows) replacement in our catalog. Using iTransfer is easy: just connect your device, drag and drop the files you want to transfer -- and you're done! Retrieving files from any … Read more
You remember Mailbox, right? The free iOS app that was set to revolutionize the way we e-mail. With options to snooze and postpone e-mails from being visible in our Inbox, it was sure to be a hit! And it was; after a long list of users waiting to gain access to the service, Dropbox decided it needed to acquire Mailbox.
Fast-forward to today, and you'll find an iPad version of the app along with Dropbox integration (naturally) within the app. And with the Dropbox integration in mind, if you connect your Dropbox account to Mailbox, you'll automagically gain … Read more
It's my personal belief that, across the board, gadgets should be tough enough to handle your real life. I don't think phones should require cases -- Gorilla Glass is more than strong enough to take a drop, and it's perfectly feasible to design devices that can handle bangs, biffs, and dunks without being completely destroyed. (Side note: Why does the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active even exist? Why aren't all versions of the S4 dust-proof, shock-proof, and waterproof? See what I'm getting at here?)
Anyway, the good news is that I've found over and over … Read more

The ability to customize your iOS device beyond a wallpaper on the home and lock screens and icon arrangement doesn't truly exist. Unless, that is, you decide to jailbreak your iDevice. Jailbreaking a device gives you full permission to modify and install whatever you want on iOS, outside of Apple's walled garden. There are plenty of arguments for and against the act, but we'll leave that for another post.
For those who don't want to jailbreak, a new app called Iconical will allow you to create your own app icon for a long list of supported … Read more
