Verizon Wireless has just announced that it will be the exclusive provider of the Casio G'zOne Type-S rugged cell phone, starting tomorrow. A successor to the Type-V handset it debuted a year ago, the Type-S is much smaller and has a more streamlined designed, but it was still made with the same military-grade specifications. According to Verizon and Casio, it is able to withstand extreme humidity, three feet of water for up to 30 minutes, and drops from about five feet; it can also resist dust as fine as silica flour. It certainly looks rugged, too, with its sturdy … Read more
PhoneScoop spotted the Casio G'zOne Type-S phone on the FCC site yesterday, and it looks to be the smaller version of the G'zOne Type-V phone we reviewed last year. The Type-S seems to be just as durable and rugged as its predecessor, although the specs on it are slightly different: it sports a VGA camera instead of the 2-megapixel one on the Type-V, and features Bluetooth, which the Type-V didn't. The Type-S also did away with the stubby antenna on the Type-V, opting instead for a loop antenna similar to those found on a lot of Sony … Read more
Casio has announced its plan to participate in the latest round of the camera world's now-futile megapixel war with its forthcoming Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200. The company's next top model will sport a 1/1.7-inch, 12-megapixel CCD imaging sensor. A 3X optical, 37mm-to-111mm equivalent, f/2.8-to-f/5.4 zoom lens will funnel light toward that sensor, while a 2.8-inch, 230,400-pixel LCD will let you view your work.

The EX-Z75 is a follow-up to the company's budget-priced Casio Exilim EX-Z70. The 7-megapixel shooter is essentially identical to the Z70, except for its slightly larger 2.6-inch LCD screen. The Z75 has the same sensor, 3X lens, digital image stabilization, and 34 scene settings. The $230 camera might be worth a look when it hits stores in March, but you … Read more
If you're like me, and you're growing tired of the seemingly endless parade of thin, pretty cells, you'll be glad to know that not all new handsets look like contestants on Extreme Makeover. Take, for example, the new Casio GzOne, which is styled about as far from the Motorola Razr as you can get it. Rugged and durable, the GzOne features a plastic bumper on the bottom end of the front face that's designed to protect the phone if it's dropped. Rubber touches give the GzOne even more protection, and like Nextel's handsets, it … Read more
