Sure the Moto X isn't the most powerful Android handset money can buy. Neither is it a big-screen mobile monster like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Nor is the Moto X equipped with a ridiculously high-capacity battery … Read more
The Moto G may have been given an early public showing in the UK.
Eagle-eyed observers on Monday discovered that the Amazon UK site had listed the Moto G on preorder and available for delivery on November 14. The listing, which has since been removed, didn't mention the Moto G by name, but does show the model number that's believed to correspond to the Moto G.
The listing was first discovered by Pocket-lint.

The astronomic growth in the mobile arena has been due in large part to the increasing popularity of smartphones, new data from Ericsson reveals.
The communications technology company on Monday released mobile phone sales data for the third quarter, and revealed that smartphones accounted for 55 percent of all worldwide handset sales during the period, though they still represent just 25 percent to 30 percent of all mobile phone subscriptions. But by 2019, Ericsson said, 5.6 billion of the 9.3 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide (60 percent) will be for smartphones.
The trend is being driven by the arrival … Read more
Mobile broadband speeds can vary widely, but now the Federal Communications Commission is turning to the smartphone community to get a more accurate picture of how wireless carriers compare.
The FCC is expected to hear a presentation this week on the FCC Speed Test App for Android, which will record smartphone users' data speeds nationwide for analysis by the commission, according to a meeting agenda reported Friday by the Wall Street Journal. The data gleaned from the project could help consumers determine whether they are getting the mobile data speeds they expect for their subscription costs.

Available from the Google Play store, Sprint, and T-Mobile, the Nexus 5 is one of the most highly anticipated and low-cost Android phones of the year. For customers on T-Mobile who use a Wi-Fi connection to make phone calls, however, the carrier has confirmed with CNET that the Nexus 5 will not support that feature.
Having a phone with voice-over-Wi-Fi technology comes in handy to make phone calls, particularly when you're in an area where reception is weak or inconsistent.
T-Mobile announced today that it will begin selling the Nexus 5, Google's flagship handset of the season, starting November 14 online. The device will then be available in carrier stores a few days after that on November 20.
Although the carrier has not announced any info on the 32GB model, the 16GB model will cost $41.99 down, plus $17 a month for 24 months.
That brings the total cost of T-Mobile's Nexus 5 to $449.99, which is about $100 more than it costs from the Play Store. Currently, Google is selling the unlocked handset for $349 (… Read more
MetroPCS on Friday added its latest Android smartphone, the waterproof and shock-proof Kyocera Hydro XTRM.
Priced at $169.99, the no-contract handset is a rugged Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience designed to take accidents in stride. In addition to standing up to water and the occasional drop, the Hydro XTRM is also dust-proof.
Internally, the Kyocera smartphone is generally lackluster in hardware. The 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is par for the course in today's entry-level devices; the 5-megapixel camera was unimpressive in CNET's review of the U.S. Cellular version. Other noteworthy details include a … Read more
The new iPhones have apparently convinced only a small percentage of iPhone 5 owners to upgrade.
Polling 400 US phone customers that activated an iPhone between September 20 and October 20, research firm CIRP found that only 6 percent of iPhone 5 owners jumped to an 5S or 5C. In contrast, 12 percent of iPhone 4S owners had upgraded to the iPhone 5 over the same period last year.
Further, among the two-thirds of those polled who upgraded from any iPhone to the 5S or 5C in September and October, fewer jumped ship from the iPhone 5 relative to the … Read more
