Mozilla: Enterprise has never been a focus of ours

Enterprise deployments have never been a key market for Firefox, Mozilla's director of the browser, Asa Dotzler, has said.

Dotzler's comments were made yesterday, in response to criticism from IT managers who said the newly accelerated Firefox release schedule was causing problems for businesses trying to keep up with the rapid pace of the browser's development. Firefox 5 launched on Wednesday, just three months after the release of Firefox 4.

"We get about 2 million Firefox downloads per day from regular user types," Dotzler wrote, describing enterprise downloads as "really just a drop in … Read more

CNET Car Tech: 2011 Scion xB Release Series

Scion has had a funny reception during its short history. Intended as a car for the young and ultrahip, it ended up being quite popular with baby boomers as well; whoops! But that's another story. In the video at hand, we take a look at the Scion xB Release Series for 2011, which is most certainly not a car with a lot of cross-generational appeal (though the Smurfs are eating it up). Brian Cooley takes you for a drive to check the tech.

Rumor: iPhone 5 announcement, availability in August

Forget the rumors of an iPhone 4S coming this fall. In fact, you may be able to forget an iPhone 4S entirely. Word on the street from Boy Genius Report is that the iPhone 5 is coming.

BGR, however, "has independently confirmed that the next-generation iPhone will not merely be an upgraded iPhone 4 as had been previously rumored."… Read more

Exclusive trailer: 'Ben-Hur' Blu-ray coming 9/27

Back in 1959 "Ben-Hur" won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. You'd figure a movie like that would be out on Blu-ray, but it has remained on our "Top 30 movies not out on Blu-ray" list for the last couple of years.

That's about to change, as Warner Bros. has announced that "Ben-Hur" will make its debut on Blu-ray on September 27 as the "Ben-Hur 50th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition."

Report: Next iPhone not coming until October?

Those who were expecting Apple to ship a follow-up to the iPhone 4 this summer may be in for a longer wait than usual.

A new report from Japanese Mac blog Macotakra says Apple is behind its usual schedule of ordering parts that go into the manufacturing process for the device. That change in pace could result in Apple shipping out a phone a few months later than the June time frame for the previous two models, and July for the iPhone 3G.

AppleInsider, which picked up on the report this morning, notes that the later timing would result in the next iPhone missing Apple's fiscal 2011, which concludes on September 24 this year.

Along with the timing news, Macotakra's report, which is based on its sources in China, notes that Apple has still not committed to changing the materials used on the back of the iPhone from glass to metal. Rumors of such a change had first cropped up in March, with a follow-up report a few weeks later by 9to5Mac that said Apple was indeed testing out prototypes of future iPhone designs with metal backs. … Read more
