The Ocean gets Exchange Activesync

When we first reviewed the Helio Ocean a couple months ago, we thought the killer application would be its support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, which was unfortunately unavailable at the time. The Exchange integration would work well to bridge the gap between the young hipster types that are Helio's core audience and mobile professionals. Well, today's the day, because that Exchange application is now here. As was reported by Engadget, the Ocean is finally getting the Exchange ActiveSync support, including an improved version of Helio's file viewer that supports Microsoft Office documents. It's not free, though: … Read more

Slide show roundup: Transformers, Eclipse AVN2210p, and Windows Home Server

We look at cool, modern Transformers toys; a GPS device that does so much, it required four CNET editors to test it; a preview build of Microsoft's Windows Home Server; and two slim phones comprise this photo roundup.

Photos: Transformers Transformers hits the big screen this July 4, and that means there's a whole lot of merchandising going on. Among the hordes of Transformers toys is Hasbro's Real Gear Transformers, a series of toy electronics that turn into robots. Remember Soundwave, the Transformer that became a tape deck? Well, this is the next generation of Transformers. And … Read more

Photos: New Pantech for Disney Mobile

We haven't heard from Disney Mobile since the MVNO put out its first two cell phones a year ago with the Pantech DM-P100 and the LG DM-L200. So now at long last, we got our hands on a new handset, the Pantech DM-P205. Sporting a thin but relatively bland design, the DM-P205 offers a VGA camera, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and voice dialing. See it from all angles in our slide show.

The world's smallest flip camera phone

AT&T has finally launched the Pantech C3b, which is apparently the world's smallest flip camera phone with Bluetooth. Measuring only 2.72 inches tall, 1.69 inches wide, and 0.8 inch thick, it is essentially the same as the Pantech C300. The Pantech C3b is different only in that it has changeable covers and that it has integrated Bluetooth. It packs in quite a number of features in such a tiny device, like a VGA camera, mobile e-mail services, text messaging, and GPRS connectivity. Sure, it's not a terribly fancy phone, but for the low … Read more

Helio Ocean launches today

Happy Helio Ocean day! Yep, the highly anticipated dual-slider phone from Helio has finally launched today, at $295 each. You can get one from Helio's online store or from any of its retail stores. You can also pick one up from EB Games or GameStop starting next week. We're still busy reviewing it over here, but until we unleash the full review unto you, here are a couple of our first impressions.

Helio Ocean is in the house

Even though we played around with the prototype of the Helio Ocean cell phone back in March (see our lengthy first impression here), we were still excited when we received the final product in our gadget-hungry hands.

Yes, we finally have the Helio Ocean right now in the house, and save for a few user-interface improvements, it feels pretty much the same as that earlier prototype. The triple-decker phone has a bit of heft to it, but we liked its smooth lines and soft-touch surface, and the 2.4-inch QVGA screen is simply a sight to behold. The QWERTY keyboard … Read more

Pantech launches dual-LCD slider phone

Pantech just announced the IM-R200, a slider phone that comes with two LCDs--one is the primary display, and the other is an OLED touch-sensitive screen that acts as the phone's keypad. In order to provide tactile feedback, the touch pad has microvibrations to let you know when a key has been pressed. The reasoning behind the virtual keypad is that the phone has separate virtual interfaces for different functions, such as for the camera or the music player. For example, when you activate the music player, the interface of the touch pad changes to a list of songs and … Read more

Pantech C3b is world's smallest flip phone with Bluetooth

When Pantech released the Pantech C300 last year, we were amazed at its diminutive size. Weighing 2.5 ounces and measuring 2.72 inches by 1.69 inches by 0.76 inch, the C300 is touted by Pantech as the world's smallest camera flip phone. Then Pantech released the C3, which is the C300 with changeable faceplate covers. Now Pantech has come up with the C3b, essentially the same thing, but with Bluetooth functionality. Word is it'll go to AT&T soon, though pricing isn't available at this time.

Helio has a QWERTY phone in the works

Well looky what we got here: Phonescoop spotted this shiny new Helio QWERTY phone on the FCC site this morning, and it looks to be a triple-layer wonder. Not only does the phone slide up to reveal the number keypad, it also slides sideways to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard--both the keypad and the keyboard are on separate layers. Manufactured by Pantech, the phone is tentatively called the PN-810, but we're guessing Helio will name it something else to suit their current lineup of the Hero, the Kickflip, and the Drift. Known features of the phone are impressive: EV-DO … Read more
