Cisco bringing Cius Android tablet to AT&T

The Cisco Cius tablet will connect to AT&T's HSPA+ wireless network when it launches this fall, the companies announced today.

Cisco Systems' upcoming Android-based tablet, which boasts a 7-inch display, is designed with business users in mind. The device will support Cisco's collaboration software, and thanks to its dual cameras, allow for video conferencing over Cisco's TelePresence service. Outside of that, the tablet will work like most others, offering Web browsing, e-mail, and the ability to store content on its 32GB of internal memory.

Startup America gets Microsoft, Google, HP support

Microsoft, Google, Hewlett-Packard, and a host of other companies are providing funds and resources to the Startup America Partnership to further the group's goal of fostering the entrepreneurial spirit.

More than 15 companies will kick in a total of $400 million in money, services, training, and other benefits that will go directly to entrepreneurs trying to get their ideas and businesses off the ground.

Don't buy a Flip--for now

Editors' note (April 26, 2011): Since this post, Cisco has announced it will continue to support Flip devices within the terms of the company's one-year warranty. Technical support for both the video cameras and the FlipShare software and sharing services will be available until December 31, 2013. Sharing services will also end on this date. Cisco gives Flip video biz the boot

The first cuts to Cisco Systems' business have been announced, and the Flip video camera is among the first items to go.

Cisco announced today that it will exit parts of the consumer electronics business as it strategically realigns its business to focus on five main areas: core routing; switching and services; collaboration; architectures; and video. Cisco Systems, one of the world's largest technology companies, signaled last week that it has more than a passing interest in cloud infrastructure by submitting a design for OpenStack: Network as a Service (NaaS).
