Adobe InDesign is crashing on new MacBooks

A number of Adobe users who have purchased one of Apple's latest MacBook systems have been experiencing crashes of Adobe's InDesign layout software.

Yesterday, AppleInsider reported that a number of users had been complaining on the Adobe discussion boards about InDesign becoming unresponsive (for some displaying an empty warning dialog box) and requiring users to force-quit the program. This happens when performing several different tasks, including after deleting a page that has content on it and when packaging a file.

NBC Olympics to stream games live on mobile devices

NBC Sports and Adobe Systems have teamed up to give fans two apps that stream the Olympics live on mobile devices, record footage for playback, and share the experience through social media.

The apps -- a live-streaming app for the more than 3,500 hours of content, and a companion app loaded with additional content launched today. The apps are now available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch via Apple's App Store, and select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play. Adobe: Web standards match 80 percent of Flash features

SAN FRANCISCO--Adobe Systems, retooling as fast as it can for a future of Web publishing and Web apps, sees the technology as mostly caught up to the Flash technology that Adobe previously preferred.

"I think it's close to 80 percent," Arno Gourdol, Adobe's senior director of Web platform and authoring, said in an interview during the Google I/O show here.

It's a bad day for BlackBerry maker Research In Motion. The company's earnings call was three layers of ugly. BlackBerry 10 devices will be delayed until the first quarter of 2013. The company is cutting 5,000 jobs (that's a third of its employees). And it suffered a huge operating loss for the quarter. (Hence the job cuts.) Adobe's Flash Player not certified for use on Android 4.1

The end is very, very near for Adobe's Flash Player on mobile devices.

Adobe Systems announced in a blog post yesterday that its Flash Player will not be "certified for use" with Google's upcoming update to its mobile operating system, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The company said that users might still be able to access the Flash Player on their Jelly Bean devices if they had previously run the service on Android 4.0, though it could "exhibit unpredictable behavior."

Adobe adds Lightroom to Creative Cloud subscription

Adobe Systems fulfilled a promise, adding its Lightroom software for editing and cataloging photos to its Creative Cloud subscription.

Adobe launched the Creative Cloud in May, a $50-per-month subscription that grants access to Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Creative Suite 6 software along with online services and other perks. Adobe pledged to add Lightroom to the mix, and last night it announced its availability.

Faster innards, with a high-resolution, high-contrast 15.4-inch display and all the essential ports -- as long as you're willing to possibly have to waste one of the two essential Thunderbolt ports with dongles for FireWire and Ethernet -- at a lighter 4.5 pounds is a potentially winning combination if you've been schlepping around one of the older, heavier models.
