Here's what I'd like to see.
Users of the iOS version of Google Hangouts can now place outgoing voice calls -- free to numbers in the US and Canada -- and can, if they're in the states and also have a Google Voice number, receive calls in the app as well.
The new feature is part of version 1.3.0 of Hangouts for iOS, which was released Friday night for the iPhone, the iPad, and the iPod Touch.
Though Google isn't charging for calls to the states or to the Great White North, people phoning elsewhere will have to buy a calling credit … Read more
The carrier's iPhone 5S and 5C mini Web site directly grafts Apple's posted details, which suggests for now anyhow that U.S. Cellular will sell all colors and capacities at Apple's pricing.
Even if this changes as we get closer to November 8, we should expect to see the 16GB models at the very least. That's $200 on-contract for the 5S, and $100 on-contract for the 5C.

A California man is taking Apple to court over what he says were "unwanted" downloads of iOS 7 onto his family's gadgets.
Mark Menacher, a resident of Poway, Calif., filed a small-claims complaint against Apple's CEO Tim Cook in the Superior Court of California in San Diego on Thursday, asking for the removal of the iOS 7 install file -- something that's downloaded to devices automatically when they're connected to power and a Wi-Fi connection.
That file does not install iOS 7 on a device without user interaction, though does prompt users to do … Read more
Apple has said time and again in the wake of the NSA snooping scandal that it cannot read user iMessages. But new research has shown that it's theoretically possible.
Security firm QuarksLab on Thursday issued a white paper describing a method by which a hacker or Apple itself could access iMessages. The white paper states that Apple could intercept messages between sender and recipient and make them believe that their communication is secure. In order to do so, however, Apple would need to disrupt the encryption between communications and effectively change how iMessages works.
In June, Apple said that communication over iMessage is protected by "end-to-end encryption," and so secure that even the company itself "cannot decrypt that data." But on Thursday, security researchers disputed that claim.
At the Hack in the Box conference in Kuala Lumpur, Quarkslab -- a Paris-based security firm -- presented findings that said people at Apple would in fact be able to decrypt messages, either because of a government request or on an employee's own accord, according to multiple reports.
"Apple's claim that they can't read end-to-end encrypted iMessage[s] is … Read more
Safari pulled in the highest usability score among the top five mobile browsers, according to a new report from Fixya.

The scores were assigned based on the number of problems reported on Fixya, along with market share data from NetMarketShare. The fewer "problem impressions" given to each browser, the higher the score.
In Safari's favor were its simple interface, its Reading List feature, and its ability to let users perform multiple tasks from a … Read more
