We all survived the latest Apple iPad announcement and waded through the analysis aftermath. The result is a new, lighter-weight iPad Air and a refreshed iPad Mini Retina that finally brings a higher-end display to the smaller device. But iPads aren't the only tablets in the world. The competitors have been hanging out, waiting for the next round of the battle to begin.… Read more
Last week, Google sent out invitations for a "night out" event in New York on October 24 with folks from Google Play and music from Capital Cities. The instant speculation was that the event could be the long-awaited reveal of the Nexus 5 and Android KitKat, but almost as quickly as that gossip caught fire, it was quashed. Word spread that there would be no hardware introduced at the mysterious soiree.
OK, so what gives? … Read more
Consumers eager to grab LG's next Nexus smartphone can preorder the device from a seller on eBay.
Promising the 32GB Nexus 5 for $650, the seller, yoshio_221, seems confident that the phone will launch and that he'll be able to lay his hands on enough units to satisfy his buyers.
As yoshio_221 phrases the offer in his listing:This is a pre-order for the brand new Nexus 5! The reason why I am doing this is because the phone will most likely not be available in most regions across the globe, so I am offering my time and … Read more
Apple just missed a big opportunity when it came to the pricing on its new iPad Mini.
The Cupertino, Calif., company on Tuesday unveiled its newest tablets, the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display, both with improved specs and features. It also will offer the older versions of those devices at lower prices, continuing its trend from the tablets' early days. However, this time around, Apple actually increased the price of one of its new devices, selling the iPad Mini with Retina for $399 instead of its predecessor's starting price of $329. And it dropped the original Mini's … Read more
Almost one year to the day that Apple unveiled its first small iPad, the company launched its successor, the iPad Mini with Retina Display. The much-anticipated device sports expanded LTE support, in addition to a better-looking screen.
Apple wasn't the only company to release new tiny tablets this year. In 2013, Google and Amazon refreshed their lineups with the Nexus 7 (2013 edition) and the Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch. Now that Apple has taken the wraps off the iPad Mini 2 at its October 22 event, we can see how each tablet stacks up against the other.

After weeks of rumors about the specs, price, and release date of the upcoming Nexus 5, it appears that Google's new Nexus Android smartphone is being listed on the Google Play store.
The device appears next to the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 along with the caption "Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways." Google lists the price as "starting at $349." However, when the link to the smartphone is clicked on -- the new page doesn't load. And not long after the phone appeared, it was replaced by the older … Read more
Google's advertising these days is far more human than, say, Google itself.
This is highly wily.
The company has managed to take on much of the same warm emotions for which Apple has long been known.
So in selling its new Nexus 7, Google has decided yet again to stick its fingers straight into your chest and play a tune on the six-string of your heart.
Here's a youth whose mom wants to talk.
Oh, what youth wants to talk with his mom? She's only going to criticize. And youths are terribly self-conscious about that sort of … Read more
We don't yet have an official Nexus 5 smartphone, but there's all kinds of new gossip about the next pure Android phone from Google to speculate about.
Tuesday had been one of the most widely circulated potential reveal dates for the Nexus 5, but as I write this it's past noon on the West Coast and Google is still mum about any new hardware (in truth, if we were going to see something Tuesday, invites or some other event details would have gone out days ago).
Instead, a whole new crop of rumors have sprung forth in the absence of any hard news, as if compelled to fill the vacuum that apparently both nature and technology abhor. … Read more
Whether the big debut of the next pure Google phone has been pushed back or not, there's one killer feature I expect to see in the next Nexus that hasn't been directly addressed by the multitude of leaks -- the touchless control capability we've already come to know through Motorola's Moto X and latest Droids. … Read more
We've had just about all the leaked photos we can handle of Google's yet-to-be-released Nexus flagship phone and Android 4.4 KitKat, thank you very much. (Or at least photos of gadgets that purportedly show the Nexus 5 and the new OS.)
Now, we think, a little video might be nice.… Read more
