Problems plague Droid X after Froyo update

In the few weeks since Motorola and Verizon started pushing Android 2.2 out to the Droid X, users have noticed issues plaguing their phones. The problems, which range from Wi-Fi connectivity and media issues to a constant reboot loop, don't appear to be affecting everyone, but Motorola's support forum has a thread dedicated to the bugs.

The handset maker is working on an update, though it doesn't have a time frame as to when it will be released. Although a bullet point list with the most common issues exists, Motorola does recognize that it as not … Read more

T-Mobile and HTC are set to begin releasing a much-anticipated Android 2.2 update to their MyTouch 3G handset. According to information obtained by TmoNews, the carrier will start pushing Froyo out as early as today and continue through October 25.

You may recall T-Mobile's CTO, Cole Brodman, pledging to leave no phone behind as it pertains to its MyTouch series of phones. Coming shortly after the official announcement of Android 2.2, Brodman promised that each of the MyTouch branded handsets would be supported at least through Froyo.

As is the case with typical Android 2.2 updates, … Read more

Archos 32 is Android's answer to iPod Touch

With all the latest and greatest iPhone competitors sporting Google's Android 2.2 OS, it only makes sense that an iPod Touch competitor would take the same strategy.

Like the Touch, you get most of the benefits of a multimedia-friendly smartphone, without the hassle of carrier contracts or monthly bills. With it, you can browse the Web, check your e-mail, listen to some tunes, watch a video, and even extend its features by installing … Read more

Flickr adds in-browser uploading for Android

Android users looking to upload photos and videos to Flickr now have a new way to do it. Today the company rolled out an enhanced version of its m.flickr.com mobile site that lets users upload within Android's browser.

This behavior should be familiar to desktop users of Flickr, though on mobile phones this process hasn't exactly been carried along for the ride. In this case, it's about as close as you can get to that same desktop experience, though you can only upload one photo or video at a time. Another big difference is that … Read more

In fact, Google's most recent figures show Android 2.2 running on 28.7 percent of handsets actively accessing the Android Market.

As we gear up for the release of the G2, MyTouch HD, and other devices launching with Froyo, I thought it was worthwhile to check back in with some of the Android handsets that are currently on the market. … Read more

Google: Android not yet ready for tablets

Though Android tablets have already begun popping up, Google says its mobile operating system is not quite ready for that purpose.

TechRadar quoted Hugo Barra, Google's director of mobile products, on Friday saying "Froyo is not optimized for use on tablets." Froyo is the name for Android's current version of the operating system, version 2.2.

And that's despite the latest round of tablets featuring Android shown at IFA Berlin last week. Android Market, the place for Android users to buy apps, won't work properly on tablets, he said.

"If you want Android market on that platform, the apps just wouldn't run, [Froyo] is just not designed for that form factor." But it's been hinted that future versions will be.

That might explain why the Android tablets already for sale are curiously smartphone-like. … Read more
