The laser that turns brown eyes blue?

Some people cry over the hue of their eyes.

If only they were blue, rather than muddy brown. And, well, brown eyes don't look so good with your dyed-blonde hair.

An inventor in California believes he has found the solution. Gregg Homer, founder of Stroma Medical, says that, in a mere 20 seconds, he can turn old brown eyes into old blue eyes. Or even young ones.

The way Homer told it to KTLA News, brown eyes are actually blue. Well, beneath the brown pigment that covers the iris, there is apparently a blue-looking orb.

So his procedure … Read more

Lazy eye? Playing video games might help

Those with a condition commonly referred to as lazy eye may soon be assigned video game therapy, thanks to results of a new study published in the August issue of the journal PLoS Biology.

Participants in the UC Berkeley study who spent at least 40 hours playing off-the-shelf video games throughout the course of the study enjoyed better visual acuity and 3D depth perception scores than prior to playing the games. (Don't get too excited; these improvements have not been seen in people with normal vision.)

"This study is the first to show that video game play is … Read more

File fiend

Image files, document files, video files, audio files...all these different kinds of files need their own viewers and players. Or do they? FileEyes is an interesting program that can display and play a ridiculous number of different file types. The program's features don't entirely make sense, but it does indeed do what it's meant to do.

The program's interface is not the most intuitive thing we've ever seen. There's a button labeled File Explorer and another labeled Open File. The program also has a clock, a to-do list, and a calendar, which seems … Read more

Eye drops for images

The red-eye phenomenon caused by camera flashes can ruin a good photo, but often the so-called correction offered by photo-editing tools isn't much of an improvement. We can't tell you how many times we've tried these tools and ended up with big, fake-looking black splotches where our subject's pupils are supposed to be. If you've had similar experiences, try S10 RedEyes. This simple program makes it easy to fix the dreaded red-eye and produce natural-looking results.

The program's interface is plain and easy to navigate. We checked out the program's online Help file … Read more

Ubisoft pumps Black Eyed Peas for Wii, Kinect

Some things are certain in life, like death, taxes, and hearing the Black Eyed Peas pretty much every time you turn on the radio. Now, unsurprisingly, the inescapable quartet is getting its own video game.

After launching a string of successful music-oriented titles such as Just Dance and Michael Jackson: The Experience, Ubisoft has announced the Black Eyed Peas Experience for Wii and Kinect for Xbox 360. The upcoming game will put players alongside will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie to deliver songs such as "Boom, Boom, Pow," "Rock That Body," and "Let's Get It Started."

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Ubisoft studios in Quebec and Paris are working on the Wii version based on Just Dance, in which players hold the Wiimote controller and imitate dance moves onscreen. The Kinect equivalent, which will enable gamers to create an onstage avatar and dance using their body movements, is under development by Japanese video game developer iNiS (known for the Lips franchise). Both versions will give vocalists the chance to sing while lyrics scroll onscreen. … Read more
