Well, it's official.

The new iPhone is the iPhone 5, and many of the rumors proved to be true: bigger screen, 4G LTE, and a faster processor -- all good stuff, to be sure.

But revolutionary? Not hardly. At first blush, the new model is simply playing catch-up with a number of other smartphones already on the market, without a single "wow" feature that'll have people talking.

Apple wins big in Samsung patent battle: Did you call it? (poll)

The Super Bowl of patent litigation battles is finally over, sports fans, and the victory goes to Apple over Samsung this time around.

That's right, put another one in the win column for the Cupertino crusher -- the details are unrolling right now on CNET's Live Blog, but it looks as though the jury has found that Samsung infringed on some of Apple's patents and diluted the iPhone's trade dress, for starters.

The 1976 Viking mission to Mars uncovered some tantalizing, and much-debated, evidence of possible previous life on the big, red planet. Now we have the Curiosity rover over there to really sort things out.

The Android-packing Samsung Galaxy S III will be arriving in stores in a few days with plenty of fanfare to welcome it. The Galaxy Nexus is expected to change into new clothes and reappear wearing the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

All these hot Android developments mean the ball is now lobbed onto Apple's side of the smartphone court. The iPhone 5 is shrouded in both secrecy and juicy rumors. It may be bigger. It may have NFC. It may be a true world phone.
