Verizon is ramping up network coverage for its subscribers who ride the New York City subways.
The carrier announced on Tuesday that it will start installing the necessary network gear over the next several weeks with the goal of providing wireless access in 36 NYC subway stations later this year. Once the service is up and running, Verizon subscribers will be able to tap into 3G and 4G voice and data.
The Web site of The New York Times and its parent company were down for about two hours Wednesday morning, and the company said on Twitter that the problem was with its internal server.
The site appeared to go down shortly before 8:30 a.m. PT and seemed to be restored by about 10:45 a.m. PT, though some connections still failed.

New York state regulators are seeking more information on Bitcoin and other virtual currencies to both regulate and add extra safeguards to the nascent industry. The state's Department of Financial Services issued subpoenas to about 12 people and companies that have been associated with virtual currencies, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The subpoenas, which legally require people or companies to hand over information, were issued to venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, the Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss twins, Coinbase, BitInstant, Coinsetter, and others.
