Neurio Home Intelligence is a technology that helps you understand your energy usage and automate your home appliances. It's like a Belkin WeMo Insight Switch for your entire home. It started as a university project, and led to the creation of Vancouver-based startup Energy Aware Technology Inc. Then the team took their concept to Kickstarter, launching a campaign on October 16. The funding period doesn't end until November 15, but backers have already pledged well over its original $95,000 (CAD) goal. So, with over $125,000 pledged thus far, I don't think we've heard the … Read more
The curved display on Samsung's Galaxy Round offers distinct advantages in reducing reflections and the high glossiness of flat displays, according to a report out Tuesday.
"There is widespread misunderstanding regarding curved displays. They aren't simply a marketing gimmick as has been widely reported," Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate Technologies, a firm that does display testing and evaluation, said in a report published Tuesday.
"In fact, curved screens are a major and very important new display technology innovation," he said in his introduction to the report, which is based on his own in-house testing … Read more
Last weekend in NYC John La Grou was a keynote speaker at the Audio Engineering Society convention. He based some of his assumptions about how recorded music will evolve on Moore's Law, which states that the number of transistors squeezed onto integrated circuits doubles approximately every two years. That prediction was made in 1965, and if anything, Moore underestimated the cost savings we've enjoyed. La Grou rolled out statistic after statistic that painted a rosy future for music, gaming, and film tech advances in the coming decades.
La Grou believes that highly advanced gestural control and brain/machine … Read more
It should come as no surprise that the 0.7-inch-thick 15.4-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Pro Retina models aren't easy to repair. iFixit said this week their repairability is still rock bottom.
Thin laptops, especially those from Apple, aren't known for easy accessibility or repair as their cases are often completely sealed.

A Swedish-based startup called Wonder Technology Solutions announced Tuesday the release of its "Trax GPS Tracker for Children and Pets," which the company touts as being able to let users "locate their children and pets at any time and from anywhere."

They see them as lying in bed all day, their drapes permanently closed, their noses permanently buried in some technological device, ready to sext at a moment's notice.
May I present evidence to support this enlightened view?

The wearable technology market is set to expand rapidly in the next several years, according to new data from Juniper Research.
The research firm on Tuesday forecast that worldwide spending on wearable technology will hit $1.4 billion this year. By 2018, that figure will hit $19 billion. The increase is due in large part to "heightened consumer awareness of wearable technology," Juniper Research's Nitin Bhas said in a statement.
That heightened awareness has resulted in large part from reports that Apple could be getting ready to launch a new smartwatch and from the actual debut of … Read more
