Nintendo has announced that it will finally be stocking its stripped down, $99 Wii Mini console on US store shelves later this month.
The Wii Mini, which debuted in Canada shortly after the official Wii U launch last fall, has seen launches in a number of other markets, most recently the UK in March. With Wii U sales tepid, only spiking recently thanks to a significant price cut, Nintendo has its eyes set on expansion.
It looks like Apple won't be bragging just yet about the early sales of its iPad Air.
Apple, which has made it a routine to release first-weekend sales figures after the launches of new iPads and iPhones, this morning did not release a statement, which typically comes out at 5:30 a.m. PT the first Monday after a launch.
The lack of a press release could mean Apple is holding off until a later time, or that it is waiting for the launch of its iPad Mini with Retina Display , which is slated to hit stores later this … Read more
The iPad Air is already off to a better start than its predecessor.
Hitting stores last Friday, the latest-generation iPad saw five times the adoption level of the iPad 4 during its initial weekend, mobile analytics firm Fiksu said on Sunday. The Air's adoption rate is also three times that of the first iPad Mini.
And taking it one step further, the Air's adoption rate is twice as high as that of last year's iPad 4 and iPad Mini combined.
As of Sunday night, the Air accounted for 0.75 percent of all iPads seen by Fiksu. … Read more
Apple has two new iPads, and they've never been more similar.
The iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display are both out in stores, but unlike a year ago, the large and small are, under the hood, more alike than different. Both have Retina displays, in the same resolution no less. Both have A7 processors. Both come in storage sizes up to 128GB. Both come in cellular versions. One starts at $399, the other starts at $499.
So, which iPad should you get?

A report out of Japan is painting a bleak supply picture for the iPad Mini with Retina Display, which is causing consternation at one Japanese carrier.
Currently, LG Display and Sharp are both stipulated as display suppliers for the new iPad Mini. Problem is, LGD is the only one having any success at achieving production, according to a DisplaySearch Japan analyst cited in a Nikkei report. But even LGD is not faring that well at the moment. The report characterizes production at LGD as "not close to full production."
As a result, Apple is now turning to Samsung. … Read more
Apple's newest iPad goes on sale this Friday, which has already arrived in some parts of the world.
In-store sales began in Australia, and are headed to 41 other countries, marking the biggest launch yet for one of Apple's tablets. Last year's iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad launch initially targeted 27 countries, while the third-generation model launched in just 10. One of those 42 countries is Greater China, which was Apple's third-biggest market behind Europe and the Americas this year.
The launch is the first part of a two-stage release that also includes a new version … Read more
Apple's hasn't yet revealed a release date for iPad Mini Retina, but a product page at Target.com may have spilled the beans.
First spotted by MacRumors, the retail giant's Web site lists the base 16GB tablet as having a November 21 release date. So far, the most Apple has said about a release date is that the $399 tablet will not be available until "later in November."
While getting the tablet in consumers' hands a week before Thanksgiving would give Apple a jump on Black Friday sales, MacRumors notes that November 21 is a … Read more
Chinese handset maker ZTE on Wednesday introduced a new line of Android-powered smartphones. Known as the Blade Q family, each one offers users a different size display. Much like HTC has done with the One series of devices and Samsung has with its Galaxy S4, ZTE is releasing a small, medium, and large edition of the Blade Q.
On one end of the spectrum you have the Blade Q Mini with its 4-inch WVGA (480x800) display, while the other end sees the Blade Q Maxi and a 5-inch FWVGA (480x854) screen. Nestled firmly in the middle is the standard Blade … Read more
During Apple's earnings call this week, CEO Tim Cook alluded to potential shortages of its next iPad Mini, which is set to go on sale next month.
"It's unclear whether we'll have enough for the quarter or not," Cook said. "You never really know the demand until after you start shipping." Analysts, of course, were clamoring for a more firm release date for the next-generation tablet, which is said to be in short supply. Cook's almost boilerplate CEO answer did little to assuage those concerns.
