Ah, the beautiful people. Stylishly waving their finger food rings around whilst delicately balancing the perfect canap?. Champagne glasses reflect off of the crystal chandelier above, bathing the fancy party-goers in intricately refracted light. Yet amidst the swirl of delectable excitement, a small group huddle in a corner, obviously too uncouth to join in the festivities. It is not the garish party hats perched upon their heads that has banished them, nor is it their propensity to wear leisure suits to black-tie affairs. No, it is their greasy fingers and crumb-crusted attire that give them away as the boorish step-cousins … Read more

Have microwaves really become so large and unwieldy that we need to make specialized miniature models? SkyMall, which never seems to disappoint (at least on long flights), is offering up this teeny tiny mini mic, ostensibly for cubicle related emergencies.
Measuring up at a measly 10.5 inches tall by 12 inches wide by 10 inches deep, it's safe to say that the Iwavecube Personal Microwave is probably one of, if not the, smallest little block of microwave on the block. I don't have a bag of microwaveable popcorn at the ready, but I'm not convinced a … Read more
If I tell you how much soda my husband drinks in a day, you won't believe me. Let's put it this way: when he switched from Coke to Diet Coke and made no other changes in his diet, he lost 8 pounds in a month. And he's a skinny guy with a 32-inch waist. Five cans a day, sometimes six. And guess who gets to haul all those cans home from the store? Also, they aren't free, something I've been muttering under my breath for years.
Featured at the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year event in Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the new Tassimo Hot Beverage System by Bosch fits into both the kitchen's overall theme of user-friendliness and the consumer's modern desire for convenience with class. The brewer is featured as part of a line of new kitchen products that are being showcased as a "new benchmark for kitchen design," according to a recent news release from Kraft Foods.
At first glance, the upgraded version of the Hot Beverage System looks a lot like the original, but there are … Read more
There are perhaps only a few places and times when really great ideas are born into existence. While doing the dishes, in the shower, perhaps at the beach while watching the waves endlessly cycle through their inspiring rhythms. Or maybe the truly good ones are saved for another activity surrounding a liquid: Drinking beer in a parking lot with some buddies. Which is exactly how Event Hog got its start.
The team at Event Hog brainstormed their line of BrandStands as a central gathering spot at entertainment events. The theory stemmed from a simple idea of creating a familiar environment--a … Read more
White or red? It may be a common question that we ask ourselves when pondering which bottle to open for dinner. Especially when our palates have expanded beyond the simple "white with fish, red with beef" mantra of generations past. I mean, what about tofu? Sometimes a hearty red is what the situation calls for. However, our wine drinking predecessors were right on many an occasion. For example, the delicate flavor of fish usually is best with a white. So the best (and most fun) answer is simple. Open one of each. Ah, but then we will end … Read more
I've been searching for a way to store my wine since my downstairs neighbor nixed the idea of me installing a Spiral Cellar in my living room. Seems he wasn't too thrilled about having to walk around a large odd enclosure protruding down into his living room. Ah, well. Such are the perils of apartment based living. I guess installing a large add-on that extends into your neighbors apartment isn't, well, neighborly.
Summer can be rough on oenophiles who lack a proper wine cellar. Even if your red wines survive the high temperatures, they'll still need to spend some time in the refrigerator to come down to an appropriate temperature before serving. But all too often the guests arrive and the wine is poured before you remember to chill it (at least, that's how it happens at my house).
