On Tuesday, HP added two new iPaq smartphones to its portfolio. But before you go getting too attached, you should know that for the time being, they'll only be available in Europe. Attention T-Mobile customers: if you own a RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320, you might want to head on over to the carrier's Web site and download a nice little software upgrade for the smartphone. We think it'll be worth it.

The BlackBerry 4.5 update brings some notable features, including video recording capabilities, HTML e-mail support, and music- and video-streaming capabilities. You also get attachment viewing and editing, a new browser design, and improved download and data performance. The update is available now for free download. As with all software upgrades, be sure to back up your data.

Q: I was browsing CNET, and noticed that PDAs have dropped off the map. It's been "the talk" for years that phones and PDAs were going to converge and neither would exist alone as we know them. Did it happen? Did I miss it? I've been an avid Palm user (even have programmed them for work), but of course Palm/PalmSource/Aspect is tanking with a couple Treos as the only remaining flotsam. Ramping up for the T-Mobile G1 launch, this week T-Mobile rolled out its 3G network to Sacramento, Calif., and plans to bring it to Memphis, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla., next week. The carrier also said that the areas in and around Washington, D.C., should expect to see its UMTS/HSDPA data network in late November.

Back at CTIA Fall 2008, Sprint announced that it would offer the HTC Touch Pro smartphone with an expected ship date of October 19.
