The 'iPodified' baby

Some of us already treat our iPods as if they were our babies. Now we can treat (or at least dress) our babies as if they were iPods.

At the iPod My Baby Web site, you can order a pink, blue, or white baby "onesie" emblazoned with the signature iPod scroll wheel "because the only thing cuter than a baby, is an iPodified baby, " the site states.

The onesies are 100 percent cotton, come in three sizes and cost $15.95. Also available through the site is a service called iPod My Photo, which turns a … Read more

Apple: Bloggers are "unhealthy"

Steve Jobs' computers are beautiful. You can't argue with iPod's dominance. But better not let Apple write the dictionary.

Blogger Scott Beale of Laughing Squid points out that the dictionary tool inside Apple's Tiger operating system, ordinarily quite reliable, has a somewhat idiosyncratic take on the idea of blogging.

From Apple's definition of blog: "A weblog: blogs run by twenty-something Americans with at least an unhealthy interest in computers."

Far be it from me to argue with that. It's in the dictionary, after all.

UPDATE: As some of you have keenly noted, Apple … Read more

iPod case helps fight breast cancer

Now you can protect your iPod in style while also helping a cause.

Designer Marc Ecko and Monster have launched the leather iPod "Case for a Cause" to benefit the fight against breast cancer.

Following the likes of a new notebook to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, all net proceeds from the case benefit Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, a nonprofit organization devoted to raising awareness and funding research.

The $29.95 case, emblazoned with the symbol created by organization founder Ralph Lauren, comes in three sizes and includes a metal belt clip and removable wrist strap. … Read more

Woz's Mini Me

"Woz"--the latest in an Apple-themed collection of PodBrix Minifigs (short for Minifigures)--goes on sale Thursday at 6 p.m. PDT at PodBrix.com. Diehard collectors should act quickly--there are only 300 units available in what creator "Tomi" calls a limited edition.

A caricature of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the Woz figure will sell for $24.99 and stands just 1.75 inches tall. Included is a pre-assembled Lego backdrop in the "the appropriate retro computing colors," says Tomi, who has signed the back of each unit.

PodBrix's collection of the modified … Read more

'Video' added to iPod trademark

Amid "Mighty Mouse" mania, Engadget reported Tuesday on a development that's sure to fuel rumors of a September video iPod release.

Engadget's Barb Dybwad wrote that Apple has updated its trademark language for the iPod to cover video as well audio files. "You know, September is only a month away and all, so we're sure there's some fanboys out there rushing to get in line at the nearest Apple store as we speak," she wrote.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's search site does show a June filing describing iPods … Read more

BadApple takes new bite at iTunes

A few weeks ago, an anonymous program called BadApple appeared online allowing Podcasts to be downloaded through iTunes, a bit before Apple did the same thing itself. Nobody took credit, but many of the signs on the site and in the software pointed to MP3.com founder (and current Linspire honcho) Michael Robertson.

Now BadApple is back with features that allow iTunes to sync playlists and music collections to MP3 players other than the iPod, something that Apple doesn't ordinarily support. Robertson wrote about the software on his blog earlier this week, but stopped short of taking credit.

iTunes is pants

That's right. Apple's music store is pants. If I were to say that that in Britain, of course, I'd be torn limb from limb by angry Apple fans (in the U.K., saying something is "pants" is roughly the same as calling it rubbish).

Here in the U.S., however, it's just good advertising. Retail giant the Gap announced Thursday that it is teaming with Apple to give a free iTunes download to anyone who tries on a pair of jeans. Because people who like jeans like music. Or something.

Just don't take … Read more

Shuffle in three ways

For those who like variety when it comes to toting around the iPod Shuffle, Griffin Technology announced today that it has started shipping TuneCaps, which slip on to the music player to give you three different carrying options: a wrist strap, a pocket clip and a key ring attachment.

The TuneCaps package sells for $15, and has received some mixed reviews. Ilounge's Jeremy Horwitz called it a "why bother" product and gave it a C+, noting that the caps "have been done better by competitors, which while potentially more expensive, merit the difference in price, especially … Read more

Now playing: Another video iPod sighting

Why is there so much chatter and speculation over a possible video iPod, a product that seems as inevitable as a disposable razor with four blades? Because it involves Apple.

That the innovative and secretive Apple will have an iPod capable of playing video has long been predicted by would-be Nostradamuses across the globe, including here. As a result, there seem to be weekly "scoops" about when it will appear and what it will have under the hood.

The latest video iPod sighting comes courtesy of Arstechnica, which published "unverified" information that salespeople for Sharp are … Read more

iPod 'Muff Dock' on back order

I chuckled several weeks ago when I first saw the iPod "Muff Dock," but I didn't initially think it merited a write-up. After all, despite its name, it's not a dock so much as a mere charger stand.

Now that I see the $19 "bean bag for your iPod" is temporarily out of stock in the pink fluffy version, however, it has me intrigued. The Muff Dock's "unique design allows you to use your existing power cord while keeping your iPod well supported in an upright comfy position," and "beans … Read more
