At Davos, the self-important get a leaderboard

For most of us, it's just Tuesday. But over in Davos, Switzerland, the elite of the elite are gathered at the annual World Economic Forum for several days of important talks, unbelievable networking, and presumably, a fair amount of social drinking.

Not surprisingly, Twitter seems to be the organizing principle at the event, and in a bid -- perhaps unintentional -- to pit the attendees (who after all didn't make it to the top of the heap by being wallflowers) against each other, the folks running Davos are keeping track of who's tweeting the most.

The result? … Read more

Twitter's embedded tweets, now on steroids

Twitter said today that it is pumping up the content of embedded tweets, allowing anyone on any blog or news site to see videos, photos, article summaries, and other additional content added to a tweet.

Embedded tweets have become a favorite way to showcase the contents of a wide variety of tweets in blogs and news stories across the Web. But, while they're a convenient way to call out a tweet in a blog post or news story, embedded tweets have been a scaled down version of what was visible on Twitter.com. Now though, Twitter is boosting the … Read more

Here's what you'll need to do:

To see if your account has the archive feature enabled, log into your account and navigate to Settings. Scroll down the bottom of the page. If your account is one of the lucky few, … Read more

Twitter goes global by putting its service on feature phones

Twitter has been pushing into the international market by making its service available on feature phones, according to Bloomberg.

The move comes as users in the U.S. are topping off and the microblogging service has to expand its boundaries in search of new members.

One of the ways Twitter is gaining new users is by partnering with wireless carriers in different countries that let people tweet on feature phones for free or for the cost of a text message. For example, the social network is now working with Turkish carrier Turkcell, according to Bloomberg. The partnership lets users tweet … Read more

A little advice to Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban: if you don't agree with an NBA referee, it's probably best to keep your fingers away from Twitter. It can cost you big time.

Free Twitter schedulers tell you the best times to tweet

Last June, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told a tech-conference audience that the microblog's 140 million users tweet 400 million times a day, as CNET's Dan Farber reported.

Some days it seems nearly all 400 million of those tweets appear on my home feed.

To ensure your tweets don't get lost in the crowd, you need to post your tweets at the times your followers are most likely to read them. Twitter-analysis services offer businesses and individuals tips and tools for ensuring tweets receive maximum exposure. Twitter itself provides Advertiser Analytics in various price ranges.
