The hype and rumors we're hearing around the upcoming Nexus 5, expected from LG and Google later this month, is that it could instantly become the new Android phone to beat. But the latest whisperings hint that it could also give the iPhone 5S a run for its money when it comes to how much of your money you have to shell out for one.TechRadar says a "source familiar with Google" has told the site that the successor to the popular but LTE-less Nexus 4 will ship in the latter part of October and cost "half the price" of the iPhone 5S.… Read more
Less than a day after personal assistant service Cue announced plans to shut down, a new report points to Apple as the reason.
AppleInsider says the mobile service, which launched last June, was snapped up by Apple for a price as high as $35 million.
Seemingly confirming that a deal was made, an Apple spokesperson said it "buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."
Cue did not respond to a request for comment.
Cue provided quick information panels, similar to Google Now, which were compiled from e-mail, … Read more
Nearly two dozen photos landing online may prove to be our first look at the upcoming Android 4.4 upgrade, also known as KitKat.
Tech blog GadgetHelpLine has shared a small gallery of images alleging to be an early build of Android 4.4. Judging by its impressions of the platform, the next version of Android could be an incremental update with minor tweaks.
For what it's worth, the OS in question was likely an older, perhaps unfinished, build, one that wasn't called KitKat by name. Instead, there are multiple references to Key Lime Pie, which was this … Read more
This week's show focuses on something that's not Apple related. Imagine that.
A new log that was leaked from what is presumably the Nexus 5 confirms a million things that we already knew about the phone, but also gives us a little more information.
Facebook pulls a Twitter, and tries to convince TV networks that people "liking" TV shows on the site is a boon for ratings. The bottom line for Facebook? More ad dollars, of course.
And finally, Nokia might have a cool little app up its sleeve, called Storyteller.

The Motorola DVX could soon arrive as a lower-cost alternative to the flagship Moto X experience, according to recent rumblings.
Having recently passed through the FCC, the DVX documents show support for many GSM carrier's 3G networks. Nearly identical in design to the original Moto X, this phone is rumored to launch with Republic Wireless in October, in addition to the already-cheaper version of the Moto X that the hybrid carrier has committed to sell.

"Whatever you do, don't feed the trolls."
That's what my co-workers always say when I tell them I'm about to read online comments about the CNET TV show I host, Rumor Has It.
"Don't read the comments, comments are stupid."
My internal debate about whether to view the show-related comments is a big one. Especially when user comments are so often nothing more than "First!!!11!" Especially when user comments attack my appearance, sexuality, and gender.
Now that the iPhone madness has died down, we can all stop talking about Apple for a minute and just relax.
iPad rumors are at full force, which makes sense, since iPad day is rumored to be just around the corner. Speculations run the gamut from it looking similar to an iPad Mini, it being lighter and thinner, and it staying the same 9.7-inch size.
Also this week, Google makes me feel really old fashioned, but I'm OK with that.

Samsung could soon introduce a third premium smartphone experience to complement the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note family, says an industry source (translate).
According to ETNews, the so-called Galaxy F could feature cutting-edge hardware specifications and materials that trump those in its current portfolio. Key among the rumored details are an octa-core processor, a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, and a metal case. This design could see Samsung pushing further into the curved display technology.
Although rumors point to the Galaxy F as an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean device, I suspect that by the time it arrives (if … Read more
