Microsoft may have cooked up a new Windows 8 app that can display a variety of different files.
Code-named Office Reader, the app supports Office documents, PDFs, Web pages, e-books, and electronic textbooks, according to The Verge. Citing sources familiar with Microsoft's Office plans, The Verge said that the app was demoed at an employee-only meeting on Thursday by Kirk Koenigsbauer, a corporate VP in charge of Microsoft Office.
Beyond just displaying different files, Office Reader will let you interact with them. For example, users of Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet could use a Surface Pro stylus to mark … Read more

Taking its name from Shakespeare's famous line in "The Merry Wives of Windsor" -- "the world's mine oyster" -- the service targets the insatiable readers among us. Oyster managed to secure up to 100,000 titles and wrangled in publishers like Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Workman, Smashworld, and even one of the "Big Six" -- HarperCollins.
The idea is nothing revolutionary from what some libraries are … Read more

Digg, trying hard to reclaim its once-prominent position as a go-to site for interesting links on the Net, has released an Android app that combines discovery with RSS reading.
"Like the Web version of Digg, the Android app includes up-to-the-minute stories from the Digg homepage as well as Digg Reader, all optimized for your Android device," Digg said in a blog post Thursday. The app is available for download on Google Play.
The service, available over the Web or through iOS and Android apps, lets people read content published with RSS and Atom feeds, a technology Google concluded wasn't mainstream enough to bother with. Plenty of others disagreed, lamenting the loss of Google Reader, and Feedly is among those trying to make a business out of Google's withdrawal.
We have iPhone 5S release dates, colors, and specs. Did I leave anything out?
Oh yeah, I forget to mention that they're all just rumors. But there's little left to the imagination these days when Apple rolls out a new product.
Apple is widely expected to hold an event unveiling the new iPhone on September 10. Japan's Nikkei said sales of the device will begin September 20 in that country, and then Chinese newspapers chimed in with a release date there of either September 20 or late November (due to China's verification process), depending on which … Read more
