Alas, irritating clock keeps on ticking

One of the world's most annoying gadgets is now available in--wait for it--chrome!

You may remember that not too long ago, we told you about the Enso Clock, which wakes users with soothing Zendo-like sounds and may be the least annoying alarm clock ever.

Well, the Clocky from Nanda Home is pretty much the opposite--a clock that actually jumps off your nightstand and wheels around beeping until you get up and chase it down. The pushy little Clocky gives you one chance to drag your sleepy self out from under the comforter, then it plays hardball. This is clearly … Read more

Enso Clock says 'om'

The Enso Clock by Salubrion may well be the most unalarming alarm clock you'll ever find.

Geared for practitioners of yoga and meditation, it draws its name from the Japanese word for circle, a shape that commonly symbolizes enlightenment, elegance, and the universe.

Rather than counting time with minute and second hands, the $99 digital clock features a circle that slowly and unobtrusively draws itself along the perimeter of the display to mark the passing time.

The Enso Clock allows users to set sequential timers that run one after the other to compose an overall session. Instead of rousing … Read more

Chumby review, photos

Looking like the lovechild of a Tribble and an iPod Touch, the Chumby is an adaptable little do-anything box that can stream internet radio, browse YouTube videos, serve up newsfeeds, wake you up in the morning, and generally distract you from doing anything productive with your life. In short: the Chumby is a blast.

Want the full low-down? We've got our own Chumby photo gallery, along with the official CNET review.

'iSoundSpa' does the accessorizing for your iPod

With so many iPod colors coming out all the time, it can be difficult to coordinate them with their docks and speakers. The "iSoundSpa Fusion" is designed to take the angst out of coordinating accessories with your media player by providing the option to mix and match faceplates.

The Fusion combines a dual alarm clock, AM/FM radio, and "six soothing nature sounds" with an iPod dock, Chip Chick says. But what makes it different from so many other docks is its interchangeable facades, which come in four colors in addition to the original white for $… Read more

The latest TV fashion may be bleached

There's not much that can (or should) be done to create an entirely new design for an LCD or plasma TV without ruining its clean and sleek look. They basically are limited by the same constraints as handheld devices with large touch screens--a lack of unused real estate.

But we hope that won't inspire manufacturers to go crazy experimenting with colors in a big way. It's true that we've seen a pink TV or two, as well as some that have sported natural wood and bamboo finishes (not to mention diamonds and rubies, but we won'… Read more

A tiny 5-in-1 digital photo frame

Other than Ceiva, we've never quite understood the need for all these digital picture frames, and getting enormous just made things worse.

Mustek's Photostation PF-D420 goes in the opposite direction--it has only a 2.4-inch LCD--but it compensates for its petite stature by including other functions, according to Chip Chick. In fact, it might be more accurate to describe it as an alarm clock that plays MP3s, FM radio, and, as a bonus, digital slide shows.

Perhaps the most useful feature of all is its thermometer, because it can help you decide if you really want to get … Read more

The 'original' online alarm clock

We got a ping earlier today from Tom Churm, the creator of Germany-based Online Alarm Clock, who wanted to let us know about his Web based alarm clock that's quietly been humming along since early 2006. The service's claim to fame is its two-click alarm selector, which lets anyone set a wake-up call or alert without too much complication (note: while Churm says it's two, you still have to select each hour and minute you want with a second button press, so it's actually four clicks). Users have to trudge to their machine to turn off … Read more

XtremeMac upgrades Luna iPod alarm clock to X2

Not content with the generally good marks it received for its first-gen Luna iPod clock radio, XtremeMac is back with the Luna X2. Boasting two separately programmable iPod alarms and a slew of customizable options such as volume control and play duration, the X2 can tailor to almost any specific wake-up preference. Also included in the package is an eight preset AM/FM tuner, remote, an adjustable brightness LCD display, and an auxiliary port for connecting other audio devices. The X2 is compatible with all of the new iPods including every previous model with a dock connector. The Luna X2 … Read more
