T-Mobile plans at least 25 4G devices in 2011

T-Mobile's focus at CES 2011 wasn't about phones, but rather about tablets and its 4G network.

At its press conference, the carrier introduced another tablet to its lineup, the Dell Streak 7, which joins the G-Slate by LG.

Though no new phones were announced, the carrier said it plans to launch at least 25 new 4G devices in 2011. The company promised devices capable of peak download speeds of 21Mbps in the first half of the year and smartphones capable of 42Mbps in the second half of the year.

LAS VEGAS--At its press conference on Thursday, Dell revealed its Streak 7 tablet. This is the follow-up to the Streak released last year.

The tablet features a new design and the follwing specs:

Report: Dell's 7-inch tablet due in 'next few weeks'

Dell will unveil its second Android tablet in the next few weeks, this one sporting a 7-inch screen. And a 10-inch model could arrive sometime in 2011.

The new tablet's debut was confirmed by Dell Greater China President Amit Midha in a Wall Street Journal interview published today. The news follows CEO Michael Dell's appearance last week at Oracle World in which he teased the audience with a brief glimpse of a 7-inch tablet but was mum on any details.

Dell to add second Android tablet to lineup

Dell is readying its second Android-based tablet, CEO Michael Dell said today.

He gave few details other than that it would have a 7-inch screen during his mention of it on stage at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco. No price, name, shipping date, or tech specifications were provided.

Dell did not immediately respond to a request for further details. It could be that the device Dell spoke of today is the rumored "Looking Glass" tablet we saw earlier this year, which is purported to be a 7-inch tablet running Android.

Dell goes after doctors with Streak tablet

The Dell Streak is on its way to your doctor's office.

Dell announced on Wednesday that its Electronic Medical Records and Mobile Clinical Computing service, which allows physicians and hospitals to access patient information, will be integrated into its 5-inch tablet. The company cited a recent Manhattan Research study, saying that 64 percent of medical professionals use smartphones. Dell wants to tap into that market with its Streak tablet.

Upgrade woes frustrate Dell Streak owners in U.K.

Some customers of U.K. carrier O2 who upgraded their Dell Streak from Android OS 1.6 to 2.1 are encountering problems.

The Register reported that some Streak users have lost features such as Windows Media video playback, PC syncing, and the Facebook widget.

Other issues, noted in Dell and O2 forums, include problems with the touch screen, Web browsing and voice commands, the appearance of back-to-front volume keys, and erased contacts. For some people, the update didn't work and caused problems with the existing Android 1.6 OS.

Dell checks for open-source licensing misstep

Dell is responding to concerns in the open-source community that it didn't comply with the rules governing Android software used in its Streak tablet.

The Streak was released in the U.K. in June, and in the U.S. in July. Recently, a group of developers started a mini-protest online after they found, they said, that Dell failed to release some source code components for the Streak as required by anyone using software governed by the GNU General Public License.

Dell Streak officially priced for U.S.
