And if you've ever plunked down in bed or on the couch to read something, you've probably discovered that the screen will automatically rotate between portrait and landscape orientations depending on how you hold your phone or tablet. This can be useful, or it can be a huge hassle -- especially if you move around a lot and don't want the screen constantly shifting back and forth.… Read more
The US Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal by online retailers to throw out a New York state law that requires their customers to pay state sales tax on online purchases, according to The Associated Press.
The justices rejected the appeals without comment. Amazon and Overstock argue in their appeals that a New York state law requiring them to collect sales tax on items sold on their sites to consumers living in New York violates the Constitution. The e-commerce Web sites argue that customers shouldn't be forced to pay state sales tax since these companies do … Read more

Amazon is testing a delivery service that uses drones to deliver packages within 30 minutes of an order being placed.
Dubbed Amazon Prime Air, the service uses 8-propeller drones about the size of a remote-controlled airplane to transport shoebox-size plastic bins from fulfillment centers to customers' homes. The service, which still requires more testing and clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration, could take to the skies as soon as four to five years, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos told Charlie Rose during an interview Sunday on "60 Minutes." (Disclosure: "60 Minutes" is produced by CBS, which also is the parent company to CNET.) … Read more
In the tech world, the holiday spirit involves the right cross, the jarring upper-cut, and what they call in England the Glasgow Kiss.
If you're not out there explaining to people why your product is better than an Apple offering, then you simply don't realize what's at stake in stuffing the Christmas stocking.
After Microsoft has offered its consistent pummeling of the iPad, into the ring steps Amazon. And how.
To present its Kindle tablet, Washington state's other tech company decides it's going to compare its graces with the iPad Air.

How many times have you heard someone fess up to binge-watching hours of "House of Cards" or "Orange Is the New Black" from Netflix? Probably a lot.
Been hearing the same enthused admissions about poor self-control over Amazon's originals? Probably not, according to an early read on the social media reaction to the online retailer's first series.
Fizziology, a social-media research firm focused on entertainment, looked at the response on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and blogs to both "Alpha House," which premiered November 15, and "House of Cards," which premiered in … Read more

Hundreds of trade union workers in Amazon's German factories have staged a series of strikes over the last year demanding better wages and working conditions. They're now planning a major strike for the holiday season.
However, Amazon executives don't see too much cause for concern.
"Snowfall in Germany is the bigger problem in the Christmas business...That is what gives me worry lines," Amazon's head for Germany, Ralf Kleber, told Reuters in an interview Friday.
Next to the US, Germany is Amazon's second-biggest market. According to Reuters, the company's nine German distribution … Read more
A TV bought on Black Friday, especially at a classic "doorbuster" sale, had better be as cheap as possible. But you shouldn't regret buying it.
That's the philosophy I espoused in compiling the list below. I combed the major circulars, courtesy of BFAds.net, and found the cheapest TVs I'd actually recommend someone buy.
With a couple of exceptions they're very different from the TVs I generally recommend. I strongly believe that it's worth spending more, within reason, to get better picture quality.
But it's Black Friday time, and TV shoppers everywhere … Read more
