Review: Pantech C630

We told you about the Pantech C630 last week, and this week, we managed to put it through its paces.

Though it might not look like much at first glance, the humble Pantech C630 actually houses a host of high-end features. Features include 3G, access to AT&T's broadband services like AT&T Cellular Video and AT&T Mobile Music, GPS, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and stereo Bluetooth.

We're not big fans of the joystick toggle, and the screen is a little small, but these are just minor details. It's not a flashy phone … Read more

LG Vu officially in burgundy

A couple weeks ago, we mentioned the LG Vu might be available in a purple "wine" color. Well now we know that the color is actually a "burgundy" and that it's officially out from AT&T.

It's one of the first phones to offer AT&T Mobile TV, a 3-inch-wide touch-screen display, a 2-megapixel camera, and of course access to AT&T services like AT&T Mobile Music. Although curiously, the LG Vu still isn't available for sale online, but perhaps it will soon.

AT&T Offering Refurbished iPhone 3G Online

AT&T is now offering iPhone 3G phones that are refurbished via its online store. The used devices are priced as follows: $150 for the 8GB model and $250 for the 16GB model. Buyers will be required to sign up for a two year contract, just like when buying a new phone. This announcement follows AT&T's under-the-radar launch of iPhone 3G sales from their online store with home activation. Currently, the only model that Apple has ever sold refurbished is the first-generation iPhone, which was sold through its online store in the US. A quick check … Read more

AT&T launches Wi-Fi-enabled RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320

It's not quite the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (aka BlackBerry Javelin) everyone was hoping for but on Tuesday, AT&T added a new BlackBerry to its lineup: the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320. The smartphone, which comes in a sapphire blue color, is available for purchase now online and through the carrier's business sales channels for $149.99 with a two-year contract and after a mail-in rebate, but won't be in stores till early 2009.

A little late to the game but like the T-Mobile variant, the Curve 8320 for AT&T features integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b/… Read more

Take control of your kitchen with HomeManager

The house I live in now is truly my dream home, and a lot of that is thanks to the kitchen. We're lucky enough to have a semiopen floor plan: our spacious kitchen opens into the family room; a swinging door separates the kitchen from the formal dining room. So the kitchen is truly the heart of our home, the place where we gather with friends and cook while the kids play nearby.

I think of the kitchen as mission control in our house, and AT&T's HomeManager device could be a smart addition to our central … Read more

Buzz Out Loud 871: Pirates on the paradigm ship

In today's show, horrible ship-related pun-crimes are perpetrated and we learn that in Russia, emoticons wink at you and try to charge you for them. Also, we bash a ton of gadgets, like the still-overpriced Sony PlayStation 3, the $99-with-contract Acer Aspire, and the Android phones running apps that turn on roaming and data use without your knowledge. Then we bring it on home with puppies. Listen now: Download today's podcast Episode 871

iPhone 3G Now Available for in-Home Activation

AT&T is now selling the Apple iPhone 3G through their online store.

Currently the offer includes free overnight shipping. The phones are offered in 8GB black $199.99, 16GB black or white $299.99 for new customers and require a two year agreement. Only one handset per household can be purchased online, and we suspect this is another effort to prevent a gray market from developing. If you want additional iPhone 3Gs or if you are an upgrader, you have to visit an Apple or AT&T store.

Interestingly, activation can be done at home--something both Apple … Read more

Buzz Out Loud 870: Baba-boo! Scareware!

On today's show, we discover that "scareware" is a thing (that never should have been) and that you can tell a bad business idea by the bad name. Also, PlayStation Home comes out (in beta) after a year and a half in development, and it seems kind of lame, and we talk about the few folks making money in TTT (These Troubled Times).

iPhone 3G now with in-home activation

When the iPhone 3G went on sale exactly five months ago, AT&T and Apple ended the in-home activation process that customers enjoyed with the original version. Though AT&T and Apple may have thwarted some iPhone unlockers, rule-abiding customers weren't happy about being forced to visit an Apple or AT&T store to buy the phone.

On Thursday, however, AT&T had a change of heart. You now can buy the iPhone 3G on AT&T's site (Apple will still make you come into the store) and have it delivered right to … Read more

Pantech C630 makes a late-breaking holiday debut

Even though it's only two weeks from the holidays, Pantech saw fit to debut its latest multimedia phone, dubbed the Pantech C630. A candy-bar handset, the C630 has plenty of advanced features like a 1.3-megapixel camera, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, a microSD-card slot, and access to AT&T's broadband services like AT&T Video Share and AT&T Mobile Music. But perhaps the most attractive part of the C630 is its price: it's only $39 after a two-year service agreement and a mail-in rebate. The Pantech C630 will be available Friday, December 12 from … Read more
