HTC TouchFlo 3D tweaked to hide even more

We've seen the latest iteration of HTC's TouchFlo 3D on the Touch Diamond2 and Pro 2 smartphones. It comes with quite a number of improvements over the last version of HTC's custom interface. Some of them include large menus throughout the Windows Mobile (WM) OS and an enhanced contacts page that integrates text messages, e-mails, and even Facebook updates for each address book entry.

It seems HTC is not quite done with the tweaks, and a future update to TouchFlo 3D has emerged showing further efforts to hide the default WM interface.

According to the screenshots, most … Read more

HTC's Sense UI headed to other current Android phones

HTC unveiled its Hero at an event two days back, and the highlight of the launch, without a doubt, was not so much the physical features of the smartphone but its custom Android interface.

According to Pocket-lint, CEO Peter Chou confirmed that the new HTC Sense user interface "will be available on some other existing devices." This will give added capabilities such as an expanded Home screen with unique HTC widgets and tighter integration with social-networking tools like Twitter and Facebook. There's no word on which devices exactly will get this, but it's likely to be … Read more

Adobe's Flash to ship on new Android phone

Marking a departure from the world of iPhone, HTC's new Android-based Hero phone will also come with the ability to handle Flash elements that adorn many Web sites and power YouTube video.

Adobe Systems announced on Wednesday that its Flash Player will be built into the HTC phone, an important step in the company's efforts to spread Flash to mobile phones. However, the initial version … Read more

And for today's phone leak...the HTC Firestone

Digital renderings of what's supposed to be an upcoming HTC Windows Mobile (WM) device have surfaced. This is the HTC Firestone, a possible successor to the HTC Touch HD. A WM6.5 screenshot is found on the display, which apparently measures 3.6 inches diagonally with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The Touch HD has a larger 3.8-inch screen in comparison.

Another interesting specification is the 600MHz Qualcomm processor, which is faster than the 528MHz MSM7200 chip on many other HTC devices today. WM6.5 isn't due for another few months, so we'll just have to … Read more

HTC Hero Android phone announced

Like the T-Mobile G1 and Google Ion/HTC Magic, the HTC Hero has the signature curve at the bottom, but it's a bit more svelte at 4.4 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide … Read more

Hands-on with the second Android Phone

T-Mobile has finally unveiled its second Android phone, but how does it stack up with the carrier's first release? If you purchased a G1 back in October, is it time to upgrade? How were the major concerns of the first phone addressed?

The MyTouch 3G won't launch in the United States until August, but the phone has been available in other parts of the world for months. The Google Ion, which made the rounds at the Google I/O conference last month, is a limited edition version of the HTC Magic, and shares the same hardware and many features with the MyTouch 3G.

Battery life One of the biggest complaints of the G1 concerned its limited battery life. Users were forced to disable many features in order to prolong use. Indeed, on my G1, I routinely had to disable Wi-Fi, GPS, and other features that I wasn't using. Normally, my phone would normally survive the day, but it was near dead when I placed it on the charger at night.

Luckily, the battery life is no longer an issue on the second Android phone. The Ion's 1300mAh battery offers increased capacity over its predecessor. Though it's only 13 percent larger than the G1's 1150mAh battery, it feels as if it has twice the capacity. Even if I leave all features turned on, my phone is still going strong at night. There have even been a few nights where I skipped charging the Ion, which is something that I could never do with the G1.… Read more
