Superheroes and villains from some of the most beloved comic and sci-fi franchises are the focus of "Pixel Heroes" by artist Pahito.

This elaborate piece features 78 legendary characters immortalized in stylish low-resolution pixel form, arranged in no specific order. It is amusing to see some of my favorite friends and foes from X-Men, Batman, and "Star Wars" in glorious low resolution.

Pixel Heroes is available in various print sizes, ranging from a miniature 8x10-inch portrait, at $22, up to a large 21x28-inch masterpiece, conservatively priced at $45. Agree or disagree with the shutdown of MegaUpload, it certainly sends an intimidating message about just how dangerous Internet censorship can be. While we are in no way condoning piracy, we also feel bad for the MegaUpload users who were using the service for legitimate purposes. … Read more

Vanquishing a single supervillain suffering from severe chemical burns (the Joker, just to name one) and suffering from clear inadequacy issues is nothing for the superheroes of DC Comics when compared with real threats like drought, famine, and widespread hunger.

For the far less sexy but far more real battle with hunger in the Horn of Africa, DC's Justice League is doing a bit of crowdsourcing. DC Entertainment, home to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and a few other big brand name badasses, is matching donations to Mercy Corps, Save the Children, and the International Relief Project for their efforts providing relief on the ground in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

The worst drought in the area in the past 60 years is affecting 13 million people, with 250,000 threatened by possible starvation. For the second time in a row now, though, Razer has nabbed the People's Voice Award at CES, this time with the impressive yet borderline science fiction Project Fiona portable gaming tablet.

While it's certainly an impressive concept design, one has to wonder where "concept" ends and where practicality begins. Starting last week, cartoonist Richard Stevens III released a free PDF of "Pocket Sweeties," his first book from the comic, on the occasion of his 35th birthday. The result is a PDF that's not locked within the digital rights management wrapper that constrains the typical e-book.

After a delay, the comic book biography of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has arrived.

"Steve Jobs: The co-founder of Apple" from publisher Bluewater Productions was released for the Kindle and Nook today, with analog versions of the 32-page book going on sale tomorrow.

The title, which was announced in June, was originally scheduled for an August release. It promises to give readers "unique insight" into the late Apple CEO's "legendary drive to the top and his continuing fight to stay there."
