Convert YouTube files with Free YouTube Converter for Mac

While YouTube hosts an endless amount of content, it requires an active Internet connection for streaming. Free YouTube Converter for Mac converts YouTube formatted videos to more-common types, but ultimately doesn't complete the necessary steps.

Available as freeware, Free YouTube Converter for Mac downloads and installs seamlessly with its own native installer. Upon startup, the program takes the user to the developer's Web site, where other programs are sold. While a slight nuisance, this is acceptable for a freeware program. The program's design is well thought out, with large, easy-to-recognize buttons for the main functions of locating … Read more

Despite the wealth of content available on YouTube, it still can't be enjoyed offline. 4Media YouTube Video Converter for Mac converts YouTube videos into watchable files, but at a relatively high price for its features.

While the full program requires a payment of $30.99, the free trial version allows a user to test its features, but with a three-minute limit on converted videos. 4Media YouTube Video Converter for Mac downloaded and installed quickly despite a size of over 100MB. After a brief loading time, the program revealed an interface that was slightly cluttered but functional. Instructions existed for … Read more

Kill productivity with Harlem Shake Roulette

If you've got a lot to do today, you might want to click away now.

On the other hand, if you're always willing to sacrifice a little productivity for a few minutes (or hours) of awesomeness, I heartily endorse the latest collision of memes, Harlem Shake Roulette.

If the phrase "Harlem Shake" means nothing to you, you have likely not been on the Internet or a college campus this month. For a crash course, simply put the phrase in YouTube and away you go. You should find an innumerable amount of 30-second clips that start with a single soul among many getting a little jiggy to the beat in a mask or helmet, and then halfway through the scene changes to, well... something else. … Read more

YouTube to be blocked in Egypt over anti-Islam film

An Egyptian administrative court ordered Google's YouTube suspended for a month as a penalty for broadcasting the controversial film "Innocence of Muslims," which mocks the prophet Muhammad, according to a Reuters report.

The 13-minute film, originally uploaded to YouTube in July 2012, was a trailer for a movie produced in the U.S. It denigrates the prophet Muhammad as a buffoonish molester, and it sparked violence and outrage throughout Muslim countries in September of 2012.

At the time of the unrest last fall, Google determined that "Innocence of Muslims" did not violate YouTube's community … Read more

YouTube yanks video of 3D-printed rifle magazine

A video showing a gun magazine created by a 3D printer was pulled off YouTube today, only to reappear later in the afternoon.

The removal notice for the popular clip, which was posted by a Texas group known as Defense Distributed, said the video was removed "as a violation of YouTube's policy against spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content."

"Yes, YouTube removed this video because permissive liberals flagged it as inappropriate," the group said in a Tumblr post. "Please steal this and put it everywhere before it is again taken down."

One video for all with GOM Video Converter

GOM's latest version already supports the expected list of common formats: AVIs, MP4s, WMVs, etc. If you're not sure which format to use, GOM Video Converter includes presets for the current line of popular portable gadgets, consoles and more so that no Sony, Microsoft, Samsung, or Apple device gets left behind.

Installation takes some more input than standard processes, mostly involving user confirmation of installing certain codecs. Personally, we felt that it's odd to ask for such confirmations as codecs don't really take that much space anyways and the odds of a typical user knowing which … Read more

'Gangnam Style,' 'Barack vs Mitt' among YouTube's champs

YouTube watchers kept busy this year checking out videos related to "Gangnam Style," the presidential elections, and Facebook parenting for the troubled teen.

Rewinding back through 2012, YouTube yesterday posted its list of the Top 10 trending videos for the year.

A video devoted to Korea's "Gangnam Style" craze took the top spot. A music video of the song "Somebody that I Used to Know" by Canadian band Walk off the Earth took second place.

Going viral and taking third place was Kony 2012, a video campaign urging the capture and arrest of … Read more

YouTube introduces Capture for easy recording and sharing

Google announced today a new iOS app called YouTube Capture that lets users film and upload a video in as few as three clicks. Users can post their videos simultaneously to YouTube, Google+, Facebook, and Twitter, or upload them privately. Advanced features let users perform color correction and stabilization, edit the video length, and even add music.

When YouTube introduced its first homegrown app for iOS this year, I asked the team behind it why there was no option for uploading videos to the site. Even though YouTube is moving from pure user-generated content to a site that emphasizes more … Read more
