Given the overwhelming hype and Wednesday's news that Grand Theft Auto V hit $800 million in its first 24 hours of sale, it's not too surprising to see Rockstar Games' latest title reach another astounding sales threshold. GTA V reached $1 billion in retail sales only three days after its September 17 release.
The news was announced by publisher Take-Two Interactive on Friday and makes GTA V the fastest-selling video game in history. The previous record-holder, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, hit $1 billion in retail sales after 15 days on store shelves last November. That was … Read more
Tourism Web sites describe Hawick, Scotland, as a charming town of rolling hills known for rugby, quality knitwear, and frequent floral awards.
In the newly released Grand Theft Auto V, however, a fictional town of the same name is a hub for "druggie hipsters." And some in the real Hawick are none too happy about that.
"I am absolutely disgusted...there is a lot of history and a lot of good things happening in the town," local councillor David Paterson told the BBC. "We have got a lot of good things planned for this coming year. It is going to destroy the good reputation of the town." … Read more
Those ruminating about the record-breaking potential of Grand Theft Auto V sales can stop now. Publisher Take-Two Interactive announced Wednesday that the game grossed an astounding $800 million in just 24 hours.
Those numbers mark the highest first-day retail sales of any title in Take-Two's history, and the game has yet to reach markets in Japan and Brazil. GTA V also happens to be the most expensive game ever made, with a combined development and marketing budget of $265 million, which it's just made back three times over. … Read more
When Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in April of 2008, it waited roughly seven months to bring the title to PC. Now, as the fifth installment in the series hits store shelves Tuesday, the developer famous for keeping its lips sealed about studio secrets has no reason to change up that formula -- no matter how many signatures the ballooning Change.org petition garners.
The number of fans clamoring for a PC version of GTA V on the petition site stands at nearly 420,000 as of this story's publication. … Read more
Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has gotten off to a somewhat troubling start.
Amazon's UK store shipped out copies of the title early, allowing those who preordered the title to get their hands on the game days before its official launch. According to the BBC, which was first to report on the mistake, not all Amazon preorder customers got a copy of Grand Theft Auto V early, but some did.
Although gamers who received the game early were happy to find it waiting for them at their doorsteps, it has caused a world of hurt for those who … Read more
Rockstar Games' highly anticipated fifth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, which hits shelves Sept. 17, has been hyped for the mind-blowingly massive environment it will let players parachute over, sky dive into, or fly and drive across. The studio has touted the game as being larger than the previous two GTAs and its Western title Red Dead Redemption combined.
It turns out that's no joke. … Read more
Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V is far more realistic than originally believed.
Speaking to Chicago radio station WGN recently, Grand Theft Auto V's contributing writer "Lazlow" Jones revealed that the game developer allegedly brought in supposed "real-life gangsters" to record the voices for characters in the game.
"We get these guys in to record the gang characters because we don't want a goofy L.A actor who went to a fancy school trying to be a hard gang member," Jones said to WGN Radio. "There's nothing worse … Read more
Over the weekend, a digital file of the yet-to-be-released Grand Theft Auto V was made available via the Europe PlayStation Store to people who had preordered the game.
While the file wasn't a full version of the game -- there appears to have been no gameplay involved -- it was quickly decrypted and a number of spoilers emerged, including a full list of music tracks for the title.
Rockstar Games today released this video explaining what gamers can expect in Grand Theft Auto V's online mode. GTA V is set for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17. While the game hits in September, Grand Theft Auto Online won't be live until October 1.
