Editors' note This review was updated November 6 with new information about the Mac version of Pages from Apple.Pages, Apple's word processing app for iOS, got a complete redesign for iOS 7, but the new look isn't the only change from the old version. Apple has added several more templates, moved font style and formatting tools to the top of the keyboard, and added the capability to collaborate with others on multiple devices. The only drawback is that in remaking iWork from the ground up with feature parity in the iOS and Mac versions, Mac users lose … Read more
VideoImageProcessor for Mac lets you upload any MOV video file into the application interface and convert it to JPG images based on a predefined number of frames per second. The application only performs one task but it does so without any hiccups.

To start the process, you select the video you want to convert, choose between five available options for the number of frames per second, and then pick the folder … Read more
Watch out, Intel, because Texas Instruments wants to get its ARM-based processors into the Arduino market aimed at tinkerers, experimentalists, and hardware hackers.
At the Maker Faire in Rome on Saturday, Arduino movement co-founder Massimo Banzi, along with Texas Instruments' Jason Kridner and Gerald Coley, described a new Arduino electronics board called the Arduino Tre that increases the computing power of the diminutive devices a hundredfold. Their presentation comes shortly after Intel announced its Arduino-compatible Galileo boards.
The Arduino Tre speed boost comes from its Texas Instruments Sitara AM335x processor, which is based on the Cortex-A8 design from ARM Holdings. … Read more
Determined to carve out a niche for itself in the low-power device market, Intel on Thursday announced a partnership to bring its small Quark processors to the Arduino world of hardware hobbyists.
Intel missed out on the first years of the mobile-phone and tablet revolution, which has been powered instead by processors whose designs are licensed from ARM Holdings. Arduino devices use even smaller, less powerful devices today, Atmel's 8-bit microcontrollers.
Through a partnership with Arduino announced at the Maker Faire in Rome, though, Intel will build Arduino-compatible electronics boards called Galileo that use its 32-bit Pentium-class Quark processor. … Read more
Apple may have to rely on arch-rival Samsung for a hefty percentage of processors to power the next iPhone.
Samsung has been Apple's go-to manufacturer for the past several chip generations, most recently producing the A5, the A6, and this year's A7. Apple has sought to reduce that dependence by reportedly cutting a deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to take on production of future A series processors. But Samsung is far from out of the picture, according to a story from The Korea Economic Daily.
Samsung will manufacture 30 to 40 percent of the A8 processors … Read more
What's behind the power of the new A7 chip in Apple's iPhone 5S? A peek inside its electronic innards courtesy of iFixit reveals one secret.
Unveiling the results of its A7 teardown on Tuesday, iFixit got the inside scoop on the chip thanks to some electron microscope scanning from Chipworks. The teardown uncovered more than 1 billion transistors built into the processor.
But even further, Chipworks found that the transistors are more tightly packed. The distance between each transistor in the A7 is 114 nanometers, an advancement over the A6's 123 nanometer gap. The improvement is possible … Read more
Apple injected a lot of marketing hyperbole into its claims about the wonders of 64-bit computing when it showed off the A7 processor at the heart of the new iPhone 5S. But there are real long-term reasons that Apple is smart to move beyond the 32-bit era in mobile computing.
The iPhone maker did indeed beat its smartphone rivals to the 64-bit era with the A7, and the processor may indeed vault over its predecessor's performance. The hyperbole came when Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller, speaking at Apple's iPhone 5S and 5C launch event on Tuesday, linked those … Read more

A widely-cited analyst echoed previous rumors about the iPhone 5S while adding that there will be a 128GB option for the new phone and possibly a 64-bit processor.
Expect a new 128GB storage option for the iPhone 5S, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Thursday (via AppleInsider).
In February, Apple began offering a 128GB option on the iPad 4 for the first time.
And gold -- maybe better described as "champagne" -- will be a color option on the upcoming phone, Kuo said, echoing a previous report from Japanese site Macotakara.
The analyst also claimed Thursday that the … Read more
