Schildi the tortoise was found in rough shape in Germany. He was abandoned and missing part of his front leg. What was left of the leg was in such bad condition, it had to be amputated at the shoulder. German veterinary clinic Bird Consulting International took care of Schildi, but had to figure out how to make him mobile again.
"Tortoises need to run free in gardens, so he needed a prosthetic," veterinarian Panagiotis Azmanis told The Local. Fortunately, the vet's office had a toy box on hand. Azmanis dug around and emerged with a set of Lego wheels and blocks.… Read more
I can't say enough good things about TT Games' Lego series, which have brought everything from Batman to Harry Potter to "Star Wars" to life in glorious brick form.
And last year's Lego Lord of the Rings was among the best yet, an epic and thoroughly entertaining game version of the entire three-movie series. Of course, you needed a PC or game console to play it.
I've been getting a bit soft lately.
I don't know whether it's Google's fault or merely life's.
So along comes Lego with an attempt to make you buy, well, Lego this holiday season, and I find myself oddly moved.
Here we have a father and son who are bonded by the fact that they build things together.
Yes, they have their differences. But, when it comes down to it, their ambitions know no bounds, just as their relationship is, in the kid's words: "bound by blood."
This is an especially clever son … Read more
The official trailer for the upcoming "Lego Movie" has been floating around for a few days, but it's worth taking a closer look at just how geeked out it's going to be.
The filmmakers sure seem to know their audience. The whole affair kicks off with Will Arnett voicing Batman. Batman seems to gets as much screen time as the main character. Perhaps the "The Lego Movie" should be renamed "The Batman Lego Movie." That's not a complaint.… Read more
If there was ever a match made in heaven, it was probably Lego and space.
For years, the Danish toy company has turned again and again to the stars for inspiration, producing by one estimate more than 300 different space-related sets.
With those dozens and dozens of sets as a starting point, Peter Reid and Tim Goddard, both huge Lego fans, decided they needed to put their own spin on the genre. And with "Lego Space: Building the Future," they've done just that.
Their new book, which comes out this week, presents a fictional future space society, … Read more
So a teeny-tiny working Mac is pretty cool. And who wouldn't want a 3D-printed portable NES? But a model of the BMO from "Adventure Time," made out of Lego and housing a fully functional Linux-based Raspberry Pi computer? Oh, be still our beating hearts.
Software developer Michael Thomas created this wonder for BrickCon 2013.
"I came up with the idea a few months ago," he told CNET Australia. "I had purchased a Raspberry Pi and was trying to come up with interesting unique projects to make use of it. Being a fan of Lego, I'm also always looking for creative Lego builds to take on. I had seen some other Raspberry Pi Lego cases, and I knew the two fit well together.… Read more
Workers at a design studio in London recently went on a quest to find a better way to organize themselves while in the office. There were a few requirements. It had to be big. It had to cover a few months into the future. It had to work both online and offline. They settled on Legos.
Using Legos, Vitamins built a large, wall-mounted calendar with flat gray pieces as the base, representing the days of the week. Each person has their own line on the calendar, and is represented by a custom minifig character. Different projects are assigned different colors of bricks.… Read more
Owners of the new Lego version of the Maersk Line Triple-E might be tempted to smash a bottle of champagne against it once they're done building, given that it's a model of the world's largest ship.
Alas, the model would probably smash to bits. Still, maritime and Lego fans alike may want to rush out in January to buy the new $150 set. Comprised of 1,518 bricks, the Lego Maersk Triple-E re-creates the real ship with what the toy company said is a high attention to detail.
Lego said that the model includes rotating screw blades, … Read more
