AT&T bringing 4G LTE to a dozen new markets

New Orleans, St. Louis, and Cleveland are just a few of the cities on AT&T's upcoming LTE deployment list.

The company revealed today that it will bring 4G access to a dozen markets in April and May and on into the early summer.

Locations slated for the high-speed upgrade include Cleveland, Akron, and Canton, Ohio; Naples, Fla; Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie, Ind.; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La.; St. Louis, Mo; and Bryan-College Station, Texas. T-Mobile ramping up 4G LTE in the U.K. this year

T-Mobile is looking to ramp up its rollout of 4G LTE service in the U.K. this year.

Operating under the umbrella of Everything Everywhere, a company jointly owned by Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom, T-Mobile and Orange will kick off the first trials of 4G over the 1800MHz band across Bristol in the U.K. this April.

T-Mobile to launch 4G LTE in U.S. next year

T-Mobile will launch its own LTE network in the U.S. in 2013 in an effort to stem the tide of lower sales and fleeing customers.

The company announced yesterday that it plans to spend $4 billion toward its upcoming 4G network by installing new hardware at 37,000 cellular sites. It's also aiming to use the wireless spectrum band promised by AT&T as a result of the breakup agreement, assuming the FCC approves the transfer.

LAS VEGAS--The technical hurdle preventing the iPhone from coming to T-Mobile USA could be cleared when the next iteration of the phone comes out.

That's the opinion of Neville Ray, chief technology officer of T-Mobile, who said he believes the iPhone never made it to T-Mobile because of the unique band of spectrum, known as AWS, that it uses for its wireless network.

T-Mobile struck a defiant tone today and is making sure to be heard: At the Consumer Electronics Show the company unveiled its latest high-end smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, Samsung Galaxy-class handset. According to a support thread on T-Mobile's troubleshooting site, an unlocked iPhone 4S could be used on T-Mobile's network, utilizing the iPhone 4S UMTS 1 band.

This theory has been backed up by a report on an unofficial T-Mobile blog, claiming that an unlocked iPhone 4S, in certain parts of the country, can run on T-Mobile's 3G network.

AT&T bringing 'real' 4G to six new cities this month

AT&T said today it plans to launch its 4G LTE network in six new markets by November 20 as it races to catch up to Verizon Wireless.

AT&T will turn its 4G network on in Charlotte, N.C., Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In total, it will have 15 markets covered by the end of this month.
