The 55 inch OLED from LG Video Transcript
I'm David Katzmaier for CNET standing with the LG 55 EM9600. This is gonna be LG's very 1st big screen OLED TV and perhaps the 1st (ships?) to the U.S. market. This TV is the OLED technology which is a brand new display technology. It's actually found in some cellphones that Samsung makes. But it's the first time we're gonna see it in a really big screen. It's 55-inch TV is thinner and lighter and pretty much any other plasma or LCD TV out there. One of the advantage of OLED is excellent contrast. So we expect this TV to have very deep black (??) perhaps as black as it could possibly get. That of course includes the picture for (??) especially when you're watching in dark rooms and adds real (pop?) to the picture and (??) thin and light, this TV also has a really thin bezel around the screen so it's incredibly compact for 55-inch model. LG says the bezel is 1 millimeter although in person it does look a little bit thicker than that. This might not be a shipping sample behind the (??) I think they're gonna slim that bezel right down when it ships in the 3rd quarter of 2012. As you can expect from a really expensive TV, the set has all the features, all the (??) LG includes its passive 3D which you call cinema 3Ds, you could put on these inexpensive (??) of glasses to watch 3D on it. The set also has LG's smart interactivity with the 4 way motion (??) so of course all these features are kind of (??) compared to OLED but they are included despite the TV's really thin size. That thin size also makes them possible to put connections on the TV itself. So there's gonna be an external media box that connects to the TV that has the (HDMI?) and perhaps the processing power too. So it's gonna be (umbilical?) between that box and the TV itself to keep the TV really thin and light. LG tells us that this TV uses a 4 subpixel arrangement so it is from the standard red, green and blue sub pixel, there's a white sub pixel that actually increases the brightness too. That overcomes one of the traditional issues with OLED. LG tells us this TV will ship in the 3rd quarter of 2012. Price undetermined that's the real catch (??) expect this TV to retail for at least US$8,000. That's a quick look at the LG OLED TV, the 55 EM 9600. I'm David Katzmaier from CES 2012.
