The 404 445: Where we sharpen our blades and prepare for glory Video
Today's show title is a little deceptive, and we should be clear that Alison Rosen's mother does not make an appearance on this episode, but Alison's all we need anyway because she's the future of television! We're excited to have her back after a long hiatus, and she updates us on everything going on in her life, including ALISON ROSEN IS YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND, a new weekly interactive show on Ustream that features guests like Michael Showalter and Andrew W.K., in addition to an upcoming segment where Alison will explore the world of online dating. Be sure to add her on Twitter to stay updated.
It's Wilson's penultimate episode on The 404 Podcast, but his departure just wouldn't feel right unless we let him carry on today about the Apple OS 10.8 Mountain Lion announcement. We'll also reveal Apple's dirty little PR secret while we're on the topic, and of course play a few voicemails from listeners lamenting Wilson's desertion.
Even though I definitely messed up the title format and everything else for that matter, today's show is still "Where the cheese stands alone," because you get to witness the pain as I try to record a SOLO podcast. That's right, Jeff is out and Wilson called in sick, so I'm left to fend for myself with the generous help of a few friends along the way.
The air conditioner in the studio where we record the show might be broken, but we're sweating it out this morning to bring you this Friday's episode of The 404 Podcast. Yesterday we talked to Jasmine France about her new Tech Dos and Don'ts column on the MP3 Insider blog and we all left the show convinced that there's an online dating Web site out there for everyone's interests, no matter how niche....and we were right!
Today's episode of The 404 is especially passionate, maybe because we know it's the last one of the week. No show tomorrow, but look out for two special throwback episodes coming your way Friday and Sunday. Anyway, onto today's stories. As the title states, we're taking a trip back to our childhood and remembering some of our favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs and music videos.
Did you know that Dave Chappelle was in a "Home Improvement" spinoff sitcom show in the 1990s? All the episodes are on YouTube right now, and we'll trace its history on today's 404 episode.
CNET Audiophiliac Steve Guttenberg joins The 404 Podcast for a special Friday episode all about the art of music appreciation. We love having Steve on the show because he actually comes prepared with topics of discussion, and today he launches right into a thoughtful point about how music has become background filler for the digital generation.
CNET's newest TV Editor Ty Pendlebury joins us on today's episode for a short lesson in Australian holidays and colloquialisms! Today we're talking about another billionaire bitten by the space travel bug, even though Jeff seems hesitant to travel in outer space. We'll also bug Ty to tell us why the FCC doesn't care about ear drums, and he'll join us throughout the second half where we'll premiere a new geek speed-dating show on TLC.
It feels good to let the poison out every once in a while, so today's episode of CNET's The 404 Podcast is all about human vices, starting with a story about a controversial secret love scene in Dragon Age: Origins between two gay elves.
This episode had a number of potential titles. Nerd Alert, Nerd party, Nerdgasm... but we honed in on the one that really encapsulates the sheer nerditude of stuff covered in today's show. Let your inner nerd shine through.
