When impact with a pedestrian is detected up in the front bumper area, an airbag pops up under the rear edge of the hood and that pad's not just it but also the base of the windshield and around the lower A pillars. That's where most serious pedestrian impact injuries come from. Compared to that, things like cross traffic alerts and self braking seem, well, pedestrian.
