>> [ music ] ^m00:00:07 It wasn't so long ago that it was novel to find a car that was a hybrid. Now we have the first model of car, the Saturn Vue that comes in 2 flavors of hybrid. This is the Saturn Vue green line 2 mode; it joins the original 1 mode still on the market. What they do is have 2 electric motors in the transmission casing. In mode 1 it can run electric only, and electric helping the 3 point 6 V6 or 3 point 6 V6 gas only. Mode 2 is when you're at cruising speed and want to keep the gas engine in the sweet spot and the electric motors help out here and there to keep that happening. So there isn't the really bright line within the 2 modes but it is more sophisticated than the original green line hybrid. Also to make this thing nice and lean, they've got idle stop, fuel cut off during deceleration, all reversing is electric only, and they have low drag accessories mounted on the engine. If you really want to go green, check this out. This is called the Saturn flex dream, you could think of it as Saturn's volt. It has the Eflex technology that's been so celebrated and watched in the Chevy Volt. So lithium ion battery pack runs an electric powertrain that drives the car, plug in, so you can charge it over night. 34 miles of pure electric driving, then when that's depleted a little turbo diesel, little itty bitty thing kicks in to run generator to send more juice to the batteries to keep ya going, so you get long real world range but at no point does that turbo diesel ever directly drive the car. That's the Eflex idea. A lot of polycarbonates are being used here. You're gonna see more and more of an emphasis on late cars because after a while, leaner power trains are gonna hit a certain level of where they've been maxed out, then the cars have got to get lighter.
