2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Video Transcript

>> The G35 from Infiniti was a break-out car for that company, legendary I'd say. Can they make the magic happen again with this guy? The New G-37. Let's get inside and check the Tech. ^M00:00:10 [ Music ] ^M00:00:18

>> Now our little red rocket is the 6-speed sport so that's a trim level as well as an equipment level. So let me show you what the base is because our car is fairly base. So you might be thrown by this. A nice high resolution LCD but there's no nav in this car. That's kind of a new trend where cars are having LCD control centers even without navigation. That's the way it is in this vehicle. What we control up here is the audio system, you see we have radio AM-FM and XM radio--stock on this car, it's very nice. Here's an auxiliary button; this connects to a set of RCA aux in the console, both audio and video; we'll show you that in a minute. You've got a disk button here which gets you in to the 6-disc in-dash changer which is CD and MP3 CD's; no WMA support, and then you've got a couple of things here for information on the car to go into the various fuel economy read-outs and things that are so common on vehicles today. So a fair amount of stuff is done here even without navigation, without rearview camera, but you do have the ability as I showed you to use an auxiliary device and an iPod. Let's go to that for a minute. Now that stuff lives here in the console. First of all I'll show you the iPod adapter. This is the infinity iPod kit so it's factory based, there's our iPod connector right there; now that cable goes into another female jack here in the console. So you've got a specialized cable that goes from iPod to Infiniti connector. The other one I've got hooked up here is your standard set of RCA's that end in a mini; so this can be used with any variety of portables. Now in this case I've synced up my zoom which is kind of an odd thing because the whole interface transfers to the screen and the actual portable goes dark but I can still control it as you can see and get back and forth to let's say my videos; and in this case I wouldn't necessarily judge the video quality because this is kind of a low res file and as you can see we're kind of doing some stretching there of the actual video format. Now this will not work when the car's parking brake is off. You get a warning that you've got to be stopped and by that the car means brake on because it's not an automatic, as a result it can't use the park detect, it has to use brake detect as the safety interlock. ^M00:02:24 [ Music ] ^M00:02:28

>> Okay so what powers our G-37? We can tell by the number 3.7 liter V6, what they call the VVEL Valve train; that means variable valve lift and variable timing are going on here; it's a nice combination; this engine feels like it's got a little more ump than you would expect from that size and a V6 configuration, it really pulls. Okay let's price our new '08 37 sport. Now this is a high-end G and it's gonna start at 35,5 plus destination, another 6 or 7 I would imagine. We add the premium package I've talked about, 3200 bucks for the moon roof, the much better audio system, the iPod jack and a lot of cabin niceties it's a good one to get. Now the other must have for us see netters is the Nav package; that's gonna get you the hard drive-based navigation system, 9 gig of which is free for you to transfer music to you, that's nice, compact flaps [assumed spelling], you also get the voice activation system, touch screen interface and you get the rearview camera. Pretty good value for 2200 bucks. ^M00:03:29 [ Music ] ^M00:03:34

2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Review

Editors' rating

The good: The 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe's powerful engine gives it a satisfying growl and the car looks good. Its iPod integration works well, and live traffic reporting and a music server are available with the navigation option.

The bad: With its standard summer tires, the G37 Coupe Sport has a real problem with grip. It duplicates some of its audio controls, which can be confusing, and its Bluetooth integration can't access phone books.

The bottom line: Although its loose grip can make the 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe tough to handle, there is a lot of fun to be had with the car. Its cabin gadgets come close to the cutting edge of what's available today.
