2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited Convertible Video Transcript

>> Chrysler, newly single. What's the technology payload like as they're about to become the non Daimler Chrysler? We'll find out if this 2008 Sebring Limited Convertible. ^M00:00:12 [ Music ] ^M00:00:15 Now as is so often the case, our Sebring doesn't have all the toys we'd like to get if we were buying a Sebring. But let's take a look at what we do have to show you now, there's a pretty familiar looking Chrysler head unit. Little bit odd in a couple of ways though. I've got a DVD video logo here, but no screen. So where the hell do you watch the movie? You got me, but it does play DVD video, at least you get the audio off of it. Not the same as DVD audio disks which are a different format. So that's a little head scratcher right there. But I got to tell you, I'm not too surprised that there's a DVD video player with no where to see the movie. Remember this car is coming as on of the last of the Daimler Chrysler era. And we tried a Mercedes Roadster not long ago that also had DVD video playback but no screen. It is a 6 disk. You see we have the load button right there, 6 slot internal. The speakers are Boston Acoustic, that's standard on the limited by the way. The upgraded BA audio output system. Sirius satellite radio is available but not installed on our car. And when it's installed you do get one year free to start. That's pretty generous as industry standards go. You also have MP3 and WMA ability so you can get quite a bit of stuff through here plus you have an auxiliary input jack over here for very basic input from a portable device. No iPod adapter available.

>> The tech toy we most wish we had in our test car is called My Gig. It has GPS nav with a six and a half inch touch screen, Sirius satellite radio, a user addressable 20 gig hard drive for music, photos, a USB port, a Grace Note CD database, voice memo recorder and it rolls in the UConnect Bluetooth system as well as live traffic via Sirius.

>> Oh and of course if you had that My Gig system with the nav screen, the LCD would presumably become the screen for actually watching your DVD videos. Now let's talk about Bluetooth. UConnect is their brand of Bluetooth. This button right here indicates that our vehicle has it installed. It's an ala carte option or if you get that high end head unit, it does come as part of that package. But don't be fooled by the rebranding of UConnect. It's Bluetooth. And again, as always, consult the list of supported phones if you really want to make sure it's going to work. Because the car business is all over the road in terms of what phones they support on any given car. The power top is pretty easy to deal with. One button does it all. When it's closed, you've got a full clam shell hard top including the metal rear top plus an interior colored panel over the rest of it. It's not terribly quick, but it gets the job done.

>> Pricing the 08 Sebring Limited convertible, starts at about 32300, then if you want to add the My Gig system, 1900 dollars. If you want to go ala carte, its 200 for Sirius, 275 for the UConnect Bluetooth and there's a convenience group that includes auto temperature, AC, remote start, and a heated and cooled cup holder. That array is 595. ^M00:03:21 [ Music ]

2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited Convertible Review

Editors' rating

The good: The 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited Convertible can be optioned with the MyGig entertainment/navigation system. It also has a UConnect hands-free cell phone system available.

The bad: Handling on the Sebring Limited is soft and wallowing. The interior fit and finish is sketchy, while the powered convertible top is slow. We got some rattle and hum from the speakers. The transmission whines and hunts for gears.

The bottom line: Quality seems to be a real problem with the 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited Convertible. We didn't enjoy the driving experience, but the car does have some high-tech cabin options.
