>> Even though our 2.5 XT Forester is second from the top of the line, that doesn't mean there's a whole lot going on inside. There isn't. You're looking at it. Navigation system. Maybe it's hiding up here. No, that's a storage bin. There's no nav available on this car. No Blue Tooth. No true iPod adapter, no rear view camera, no rear seat entertainment. This car is meant to be affordable and most of the money goes into engine and drive train. That said, we do have a very nice base stereo system on this car which is a 6 disk, in dash changer that eats up both CD's as well as WMA and MP3 disks that you burn at home. So that's kinda nice. It does have an auxiliary input jack, rather neatly fared in behind this little cover here low on the console and you have satellite radio as an option. You see the button is right here. All of these Subaru's come satellite capable and then you add a module if you'd like for about 400 bucks to give it the real satellite radio ability. This rather ungamely thing up here in the windshield I think is the satellite antenna, not terribly elegant but I guess it works. Our transmission is the base 5 speed manual with hill holder technology. You can also option up a 4 speed automatic for another grand or so. This connects out to a symmetric all wheel drive system, which is a very big Subaru thing and one of their legendary flat four boxer engines. Let's go take a look. Now the 2.5 in this car's model designation tells you the output, the displacement. 2 and one half liter, flat four boxer engine. It's like a Porsche motor, although I'm sure Porsche is not happy to have me say that. The cylinders are arranged like this. They're working back and forth, out and in from the car this way, driving a crank that is mounted longitudinally in the block. This radiator here of course tells you it's not just a turbo, it's an inner cooled turbo. The output is 224 horsepower, 226 foot pounds of torque and the nice thing about it is this hood scoop is actually real. Kind of an oddity in cars these days, that really does feed fresh air to the inner cooler. Nice little touch in the back here. I've seen all kinds of cargo organizers in vehicles these days, but this one actually makes sense. You flip these sides up and get these nice divided areas back here. I've actually used this one, unlike most of the ones I see. Oh by the way, here's the subwoofer for the audio system. Let's price this guy out. 26,000 almost exactly, base price for the 2.5 XT. Not much we'd add in terms of options. We wouldn't add the automatic transmission but you might, 1000 dollars. Turbo boost gage, 230 bucks. And the Sirius option is either 380 or 445, depending which Subaru materials you read. ^M00:02:54 [ music ]

Despite some unfortunate external styling cues, the agile 2007 Subaru B9 Tribeca is an attractive package of entertainment and safety technology that is more at home in town than on the freeway.
The 2008 Subaru Outback XT is a good all-around package, combining useful cabin tech with decent performance and admirable fuel economy from its advanced engine-management system.

2007 Subaru Forester Review
The good: The premium stereo in the 2007 Subaru Forester handles MP3 and WMA CDs in its six-disc changer, and there is an auxiliary audio input. The powerful engine and the all-wheel-drive make light off-roading possible.
The bad: Navigation isn't available on the Forester. The suspension feels loose on the freeway, and the car could use a sixth gear to squeeze out a little more fuel economy.
The bottom line: While the 2007 Subaru Forester isn't much of a tech car, it does have a practical edge and a go-anywhere attitude that we can appreciate.
