2007 Saturn Sky Red Line Video Transcript

>> So the basic Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are just too wimpy for you. The general knows that, and here's the answer. The 2007 Saturn Sky Redline. ^M00:00:11 [ Music ] ^M00:00:14 Now the main story on the Saturn Sky Redline over the base Saturn Sky is the engine. Instead of a 2 point 4 liter, naturally aspirated motor, this car has a smaller 2 liter, but inner cooled turbo charged motor, 16 valve the same way as the base car, but it also has direct fuel injection. Net result, 260 horsepower out of the smaller motor. That's 83 horsepower more than the bigger engine on the base car, quite the engineering accomplishment. Inside this car, there's a base audio system that is common to both the Redline as well as the basic Sky and that is an AM FM CD player, single slot with an auxiliary input jack and six speakers around the cabin. Our Redline has been bumped up one notch to the Monsoon audio system. That means 225 watts, more power, seven speakers they added a subwoofer. It still has the auxiliary input jack. But it also adds speed sensitive volume control. Getting the power off that upgraded turbo engine out to the wheels is done by a five-speed transmission, either a five speed manual base or in the case of our car, a five-speed automatic, which was an 850-dollar option. It has the shiftability of the old days. In other words, you can move it around to different gear cap levels. It does not have a gate or paddles to do a manumatic thing on it. Instrumentation in front of the driver is straightforward on this car. You've got the speedo, the tact, and a fuel gauge. Everything else is done virtually through the driver information center. You page through it with this button right here. Outside temperature and odometer are pretty standard as are trip odometers, fuel range, instantaneous fuel economy, and speed, oil light, coolant though is done digitally. There's no temperature gauge in this car. And then there's an unusual piece there. That's a turbo boost gauge, which of course would only show up on the Redline. Now what this car lacks in navigation and Bluetooth it sort of makes up in the OnStar system, which can do a lot of that, just in a different way. This car comes with OnStar, the safe and sound package, prepaid for one year. You've got the controls for that here on the mirror. Don't be fooled. This button down here on the steering wheel is not a voice command button to drive that or anything else. It's simply an audio mute. So what does this bundle cost? We start off with the Saturn Sky Redline at 27300. Then we added the automatic transmission for 850. The Monsoon audio system, which is kind of the middle system for 600. We would have spent 900 if we wanted that to have a six-disk changer as well. Limited slip and stabilitrack is included in the Redline and you could have also added XM for 200 bucks. We have that on our car. All in, just about loaded to the gills as much as this car goes, 30500. ^M00:02:49 [ Music ]

2007 Saturn Sky Red Line Review

Editors' rating

The good: The 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line combines its dashing good looks with dashing performance, courtesy of its sport-tuned suspension and turbo-charged, direct-injection engine.

The bad: A cramped cabin and low-tech interior mean this is not a car for road trips or long commutes.

The bottom line: The 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line is the ideal car for stalking in the urban jungle and attacking freeway on-ramps. Great performance and a head-turning body style outweigh its cramped cabin and low-tech interior.
