>> Audi sure makes some great cars. Too bad this is an SUV. Let's check out the 2007 Audi Q7. ^M00:00:08 [ Music ] ^M00:00:11 Let's start with the navigation system. The screen is really beautifully fared in here. It just nicely settles into the dash and doesn't look tacked on at all. The actual visual quality, at this point in history, we've seen better. There appears to be some ghosting around all the characters. It's not state of the art and that's a shame on Audi because they've got a very strong technology message built into their brand. Back to that nav system for a minute, you might say how do you operate that thing? Well you drop down the console and that's where you get to Audi's familiar MMI switchgear. They're multimedia interface. We've seen this in the passenger cars. What they use is a clicky knob in the middle that also has a click to enter function and four companion buttons around it. We've seen this in Audi vehicles many times. I said we like it more or less except the placement here suffers. This is kind of way back here. And I found I really felt like I was getting my eyes way off the road when I looked down to these buttons. It just feels kind of far eastern. Let's talk about your phone calls. Bluetooth is built in on the Q7, it's just their standard, of course. At this price range, it has to be. But then there's this rather quaint feature which I think only Mercedes Benz also does. And that is the cradle for certain cell phones. You have this base unit here with a multi pin flush connector. And then you purchase from your Audi dealer a cradle that snaps on top of there to mate to your phone. They have a list of phones that they have cradles for, so it's not every phone in the world. Then you've clipped your phone in there physically and that then connects it both to the audio system for you to communicate, the microphone and all that are connected but also to an external antenna and of course to a power charger. Now another bit of technology in the cabin, it isn't here, it's here. This enormous panoramic sunroof that operates in some interesting ways. First of all, you've got the ability to open and close this sunshade, which is about 30 yards of fabric that slides back and forth and you can halt it midway and move it back and forth and get it just where you want it. Another interesting feature on this car I've not seen before is that when you have the glass closed and the fabric closed, which we have now, you can open the outer glass and keep the fabric bottom closed. I like that. Because as much as I love convertibles, I hate getting the sun beating on me and most of us do these days if you know anything about skin cancer. [ Music ] Now I'm not going to give you a real detailed, high performance road trip in this video. We don't really do that in these short pieces. But I have a bright line that I put cars on one side or the other of. Either numb and vague and over computed or visceral, guttural and you step on it and they go. This vehicle unfortunately goes in the first category. Kind of numb and vague and I just feel computers and things working. When you step on it, yeah, it goes but it feels like it gets lost when you're in stop and go traffic. I really hate some of these over technologied cars with their drive trains that just don't have a lot of good, solid mechanical feel anymore. Let's take a look at what's on the sheet here. This car bases at 49900, that's for the standard 4 point 2 V8. We've got 750 for beige leather interior. Next on the list, 1850 got us the panoramic sunroof. We have four-zone climate control, so everyone has their own climate control. We've got a 550 here for Sirius satellite radio, a couple other charges, plus destination. All in our Q7 came in just about 64500. ^M00:03:26 [ Music ]

2007 Audi Q7 Review
The good: The 2007 Audi Q7 offers innovative safety tech with its Side Assist feature, and quattro all-wheel drive aids performance. The Bluetooth cell phone integration works very well and includes voice commands.
The bad: This big SUV is less than nimble in the city and sucks down the gas. The CD changer doesn't read MP3 discs, and the navigation system doesn't include retail stores or the ability to select a destination from the map.
The bottom line: The 2007 Audi Q7 works well from a luxury perspective, although its cabin tech isn't exactly cutting edge. Although features such as quattro and the adaptive air suspension indicate off-road aspirations, people who can afford this car are likely to stay on the pavement.
